SOTN would be great. I hope they'll include that, but we'll see. Maybe it won't be 15 of the greatest games of all time, but there's no way they are just going to release 15 completely bad or mediocre games, IMO. So I'm very curious to see what they will be.
The question in my mind is - when do I stop buying these?
I think I'd be happy with NES, SNES, N64, and PS1. Purely for little display pieces.
I imagine many here are in the same boat? Maybe get the Sega too? I'll not be getting a Sega mini device as I never really played Sega at all.
That's what I was saying earlier about "classic edition" burn out. I don't think we are there yet which is part of the reason why I think this will sell really well. But I have a feeling we will start to see more of these in the coming years and at a certain point, the bottom will fall out and no one will care anymore.
Ide be surprised if this was not a NES Classic fiasco of two years prior in the making!
I doubt it. The NES Classic was done to keep the Nintendo name hyped up through the holidays in anticipation for the Switch release the following March. I'm not aware of anything similar for Sony, so it's in their best interest to keep the shelves stocked.
Yeah i doubt this will be good scalping material. Even the SNES classic was nowhere near as expensive or scalped as the NES classic.
I think there will be plenty of these to go around. But i preordered one just in case via amazon in case some new info comes out making me want it, and if not i will just sell here at cost to an NA member or cancel the preorder.
I could MAYBE see them selling out on launch day, a taking a week to stock back up. If you are planning on scalping this, you better be prepared to turn it over in the first few days. After that, you won't be able to sell it for enough to clear a profit after fees and shipping.
Not planning on scalping anything, ive ordered one for myself just because. But the Nes stock supply shenanigans of a few years ago still leaves me with a bitter taste today.
Hell I still see NES and SNES classics being offered on the local craigslist over MSRP and touted as rare, even thought I can go to my local Walmart and see each there every day of the week just about.
What im saying is they will follow the Nintendo marketing strategy. Short supply before the main holiday, create a frenzy to buy, scalpers will buy the whole supply and people will get fucked just like last time.

Maybe the cynic in me but we will see...
I would be willing to take a bet that before Christmas, you will be able to walk into a local store and pick one up without "camping" or waiting in line. That's my predicion.

Ide be totally into that! But some mediation and rules on the table first! Nothing too stupid but a friendly wager non monetary (someting game related) about the general public being able to pick one up in a retail store a week (7 days) before xmas. Lets do it!!!

I'm down. I'm confident enough that I would be willing to wager the largest amount of money that I limit myself to gambing, which is $1.
But in all seriousness, if you want to setup a friendly gaming wager, shoot me a PM.
Cant say I see a ton of appeal when PS3 is backwards compatible and any game on here is probably already available through PSN for cheap. Id much rather play on a PSP or Vita, especially at that price point

I agree. Was it not the same scenario for the NES and SNES classics though? Weren't most of those on the wii/wii u?

Yeah kinda at that point for me too. We're getting an RE2 and ffvii remake. Crash remake just came out. I own all the hits I wanna play on PS1 probably most of the list. If the list really gets filled out I would consider it or trade for one but not looking good so far for my interests.
Dual shock doesn't matter much to me for the games where it's not essential.

There is a much larger ergonomic difference between Wii/Wii u controller options and classic NES controllers and various generations of PlayStation controller.

This is true. But are there not controllers compatible on the wii that are NES/SNES style? I know the classic controllers work, but thought there were other options before the classic was released. Like raphnet adapters and such where you can use actual SNES and NES controller on the wii and wii u
I like it! I think I'd be sold if it had Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, Twisted Metal 1 or 2, Gran Turismo, THPS, Spyro, and for giggles, how about Parappa The Rapper.
THPS will never happen unfortunately because of the soundtrack. They would have to strip it and put generic music, or get the rights to all the songs i would think. Definitely a classic though for the PS1.
Meh, to be perfectly honest I don't think I could find 20 Playstation games I'd consider worth it even if I could pick them individually, just such a lack of good stuff on the system. Maybe fans or those with particular nostalgia will be happy though. IMO NES games even have better graphics than 3D Playstation games as well.

Interesting. I like both NES graphics and early 3D. I think early 3d can look really good tbh. I know I'm in the minority though.

I feel the same. A lot of the titles still look pretty nice to me. Some of the earlier titles are rough around the edges.
I have an easier time going back and playing PS1 than i do N64. Some games still look great, but some of them just look like a blurry mess to me now.

I'm with you on the PS1 v N64 playability. There's a sizable amount of PS1 games that do pixel art very well too not to mention do a real decent job of 3D rendering. I love the way the Capcom Vs titles look on the PS1/Saturn
Brilliant! I wonder where they came up with such an original idea? Even the name is inspiring for it's creativity!
I honestly thought it was a prank this morning because the general presentation was so on point to what Nintendo did. But after thinking about it, I realized that's pretty much on par for Sony. Reglardless, I'm getting one.
Yeah Nintendo invented the whole dedicated plug and play console. Now you have Atari Flashback and a bunch of other copycats stealing the idea!
Wasn't Atari Flashback or something similar out for years before these Classic consoles came out?
Initial thought is that this is not for me. I only liked a handful of PS1 titles and I'm not too sure they'll be on here. Even if they are I doubt that I'd want to pay $100 for them. Now if a PS2 Classic comes out, yeah I'd almost definitely buy that (depending on the titles of course).

Judging by his sarcastic post to me about dualshocks above, I am guessing it is sarcasm here as well, because the atari flashback was out since 2004 lol.

You are right, I'm a little off today. Thanks for the clarification.
One interesting thing to think of, is if there are any M rated games on it, like Resident Evil. It is going to cut into who can buy it as you will need to be 18. Unlike the NES and SNES.
I think these mini systems are great, simply due to the portability and convenience. I only have the SNES mini right now, but I wanna get the NES mini and I will definitely pick this up too (if the full game list impresses... so far it is not enough to tip the scales, but just 1 or 2 more games I want to play and it will be a yes).
I don't play my SNES mini at home though, I take it to work to play during breaks. My gaming monitor is set up, all the cables are ready. All I have to do is plug the mini into the HDMI and USB and I'm away! Now, I will be able to choose which system to bring to work in the morning, and I won't have to alter my set-up at all, just choose NES, SNES or PS1 and it's simple plug and play! What no guy in a crash bandicoot suit outside Nintendo of America?
If these can be hacked I'd get one
I am sure they can. But even so, how would adding new games work if the hdd/storage inside only has room for the games on it? Can the NES and SNES have their storage expanded? Or does the whole library fit on them because SNES and NES games are so small?
I landed a PSIO and got my console modded and set up with the framemeister... no going back now. Hopefully there are some cool games, I like the preservation concept of these 'classic' consoles. Really wish Sega would do a legit Genesis Classic and not those crappy aftermarket ones.

So jealous! I had one preordered and cancelled. Who did the mod for you? I am probably just going to try and do it myself, but in case i mess up!

Probably when it gets to the Nano Baby Classic.
FFVII and SOTN alone would make me buy it. Here's to hoping...
Yeah pretty much, maybe another top notch RPG.
