Lack of Metal Gear, a Resident Evil, a Crash Bandicoot and a Twisted Metal (1/2) makes it a hard pass for me. It's actually quite appalling that FFVII is the only "stud" that make the initial leaked list of 5 titles. Tekken is at least some name recogniztion but Wild Arms, Jumping Flash and Ridge Racer? No way. Gran Turismo should have been on the list over Ridge Racer too.
Pretty much this. Right off the bat this list is not winning my interest. It has me no longer feel like I will buy this. The lack of Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Dino Crisis, and Resident Evil 2/3 being on the first round has me wonder what they will choose next.
So for me, I am not impressed as well. And most likely put my money towards my cosplay project than buying this.
I love reading about the PlayStation history. Sony released soon after the deal with Nintendo went South and Nintendo signed with Phillips. I keep wondering what it would be like today if we saw the Play Station rather than the PlayStation. The space between was already copyrighted. Love the big old fuck you from Sony and released in Japan in 1994 (NA 1995) and the N64 didnt come along until 1996!!!!
I also love Sony's sticking it to Sega at the 1995 E3.
"$299."
Haha. Yup. $299................Mic Drop!! haha Who's the underdog now Sega/Nintendo. Some great history. Sony went on to greatness. Putting up some serious numbers for consoles sold.
Might not be anything for me, I own most good PS1 titles, put they're so easy to obtain emulation-wise... so I think Sony's gonna need to throw out some real bangers in order for people to jump in on it more.
I understand the lack of analog controls for a few reasons. Mainly to historically give the reason to call it a "Classic". Have to stay true to the originals. You don't see the Classic NES come with bone controllers or anything, so it's a bit silly to include analogs for something that didn't really needed them for most of their library anyways.
So due to the lack of analogs, we should expect that Ape Escape won't be on the list, but wouldn't it be ridiculous if Sony did something dumb and put Ape Escape on the platform with the controllers they have displayed? lol

It doesnt seem like this thing is going to do great. high price point.almost no games with the nostalgia effect. honestly there best bet would be to pile on the sports games as thats what most ps1 fans are nostalgic for. bank on the non gamer "bros" to try and sell this thing.
hopefully the internal storage is large, or there is a chance to add some storage under that removable parallel port so we can actually add some decent games. and hopefully we can use a more recent dualshock with this classic. the usb controller port seems promising for that. if these options are available id bite.
but honestly if you cant load a ton of games on this thing at once a $100 price tag is kinda rough sell for me.
I grabbed a preorder on one, just in case. I'm not sure I'm quite sold @ $100, and I think it's odd they didn't just announce the games they're putting on it.

^ This. Went ahead and did the same. Since I have ZERO interest in an N64 mini this will do.
No plans to add more games officially post launch. But games list will be tailored to each region. Might be interesting to see what differences there are

Playstation announced "The 20 titles launching with the playstation classic were selected for their popularity with original playstation fans."
If they are going by sales this just turned into a hard no. Probably for the Japanese version also. I don't imagine any shoot em ups making it past Gradius Gaiden.
Playstation has yet to dissapoint me, but it's gotta start somewhere Godfather 3, Archer season season 5, the GameCube controller.
That's bad news, but also is the tailoring considering I've seen complaining online about the Neo Geo Mini. It's a good corporate move, you can tailor a list, but they hope collectors and willing may end up buying more than one unit because they hide some desirable games beyond a regional pay wall of using online importation to get stuff. I really think it's a bad idea. I know Nintendo did it too, but in some of the cases you had stuff like the Famicom Tantei Club that didn't get released in English being swapped in for something so it's less of a blow.
It all comes down to the games for me. Although I didn't expect them to make them regional it's almost natural considering the variances among the libraries. If the JNTSC version has shoot-em ups and a couple good fighters it would be easily worth $100. Panzer Bandit, The Last Blade, Gradius Gaiden are a few masterpieces I enjoy. PAL has a Mickey Mouse game I really want to play, but I'm not aware of too many desirable exclusives otherwise.
Gran Turismo and Wipeout (maybe XL) are also likely, but they already have Ridge Racer and you'd think they wouldn't have too many racing games. That probably means that Cool Boarders, Destruction Derby, and Jet Moto are out. Although Gran Turismo could have issues with licensing, so maybe Jet Moto instead of that.
Legend of Legaia would be a good choice, but since they've already announced two rpgs and Legend of Dragoon is more popular, they'll probably leave it out. Dragoon is definitely higher on the pecking order - they were planning on adding the main character to PS Allstars at one point.
Speaking of PS All Stars, they made a big mistake with that game by not getting some of the best third party characters. Given that they already have FF7 and Tekken 3, it looks like they've solved that for this system. So I expect we'll see a game each from the Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil, and Tomb Raider series. Maybe not Spyro since they're just now releasing that collection. TR1 will be probably make it because the second game is pretty damn hard. I'm not sure how the RE2 remake would affect the choice of RE game - would it make 2 more or less likely? I'd lean towards less.
You need at least one puzzle game, so Intelligent Qube is a good choice. I think Syphon Filter gets left out.
That's 16/20. Ideally, they would get some more of the biggest third party games to fill out the roster. A lot of their best possible choices would be Konami games: Castlevania: SOTN, Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Suikoden 2. They could also have Final Fantasy Tactics (probably more likely than another numbered FF), Mega Man Legends, Parasite Eve, or Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1/2. Maybe even a cult classic like Alundra, Klonoa, or Tomba. IMO, they really should get Tony Hawk since that game appeals to a different fanbase. I don't think Suikoden 2 is very likely since it would clearly be the 4th in line out of those four Konami titles. Mega Man Legends is pretty popular (and much more likely than 8 or X4), so I guess I'll put it on there and leave off Silent Hill (although it really should be there instead of Warhawk or something...hmm).
Tomba would be sweet. Always wanted to play it, but it was too expensive to get. Plus having a game almost as expensive as the unit itself would boost some sales!
Bit the bullet and preordered for launch day pickup at BB...I'm a sucker for these damn classics. Please oh please put Brave Fencer Musashi on there!!!
EDIT - shit guys and gals, Sony just confirmed apparently that this is a one-and-done deal, no post-launch support, additions, or enhancements.

what if the other 17 games are crap budget games you could pick up at any games store for $2 or less .
A Japanese ps1 classic, take my money!!!

It would be cool if they had an unreleased title in there though.
SOTN is getting a PS4 release. I'd guess that makes it less likely to be on the classic then.

So, how is that different than the NES & SNES Classics?
