Removing Sharpe

What's the best way to remove sharpe from non-stickered parts of NES carts. I have some rarer carts and a couple came with sharpe on them, but I've been reluctant to damage the cart trying to remove the sharpe. You can tell when people have done it to other carts because there's smooth parts on the NES carts. Is there anyway to avoid that?

  • I use a mixture of a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and isopropyl alcohol. Works like a charm.
  • I just wanted to ask the same thing, It seems that no stores around here carry the magic erasor and now the paint thinner/alcohol im using has become flat. I may have to buy some industrail strentgh chemicals now. Someone said Weimans cook top cleaner is good.?
  • Wieman's is for connectors, and won't work on Sharpie. It's wonderful for connectors though. If you have a Wal-mart near you, i know they sell the magic erasers.
  • Does this method keep the nes cart from getting that guilty looking "smoothness" to it? haha.
  • I've had good luck with a PCB cleaner called Fluxclene.

It doesn't damage the carts but don't use it on the lable.

    It contain citrus...
  • Instead of isopropyl, try denatured alcohol. It's right next to the terps, mineral spirits and other tin cans of crap in the "things you should not drink" aisle.

This + magic eraser + gentle constant rubbing = no smoothness and most of shapie will be removed. I use a Q-tip and just denatured to begin, to get most of the blackness up so I don't mess up my precious Magic Eraser too much, then when the q-tip's usefulness has ended, I upgrade. G'luck
  • I am with dangevin, I am a denatured man as well image

  • I just went and purchased some magic erasors (didnt know they were sponges). They did a great job on removing the permanent marker but the only flaw was that they made the cart smoothe after too much scrubbing.
  • That's what I don't want to do.. I'll try this, but I'll have to be careful.

I'm not EVEN gonna comment on that......LOL

I do agree though, denatured seems to work best
  • Magic erasers do work very well. I have also found that this stuff works great on both sharpie and sticker/void sticker residue:
