2018-2019 NBA season

Hey NA,

Do we have any NBA fans on here? I know we have lots of hockey and football fans.

I know with the GS warriors being the powerhouse they are, a lot of fans have stopped watching knowing the almost inevitable outcome. But i still enjoy watching anyway. And as a Boston Celtics fan, i am definitely curious to see what we can do with this roster.

  • If George Hill hits a free throw, things might be different. As great as Curry is, his NBA Finals performances haven't quite been up to par. Durant has masked this and Green's inability to shoot the 3. Maybe they'll break down? Who knows. The alternative is Boogie magically returns to form and the entire starting line-up is All-NBA caliber.

And as a former kid that would yell "KOBE!" and throw up ridiculous shots, there's a part of me that thinks Kobe would like LeBron to tank in LA. It's cynical, but then Kobe would have a claim against LeBron, despite Kobe's recent encouraging remarks. This is the most youthful team LeBron has had, so it will be interesting to see if they actually push the pace.

I would enjoy Leonard taking Toronto to the next level since LeBron is no longer in conference. That Boston trio of Heyward/Brown/Tatum plus Horford gives them so much flexibility.
  • Hoping the Cavs can manage to be semi-competitive. It's been tough watching the roster fall apart since we won in 2016, I really wish we never gave up Kyrie but he may have left regardless and at least this Sexton kid looks promising. I think we'll be a lower seed in the East. I'd call this season successful if we make the playoffs. It would be awesome if we managed to win 1 playoff series
  • My Wolves are more soap opera than basketball team right now.

Haha ain't that right? It is a shame. Butler is an amazing player, but he obviously isn't happy.

I actually really liked the way they played in the preseason. The team shows a lot of promise, just needs an all star to put them over. It is just unfortunate that GS has so many all stars because it narrows down the contending teams so much.

I don't like lebron at all. He is an amazingly gifted player though. I think he will do well in LA but it may take another year to iron out the roster.

The C's first line is incredible, i just hope they mesh better. Right now they are not in tune with each other at all. I hope down the road though we push to trade for Anthony Davis. Rozier wants something like 20 million, not happening dude. You are good but not 20 million good, yet. Trade rozier, horford, and/or Jalen Brown or something like that.

But obviously keep Kyrie, Tatum, and Hayward(if he does well this year)

  • I definitely agree that the GS hoard of talent makes the season less interesting but I still enjoy the game. OKC is my team and I am hoping for a Western Conference Final appearance. What bums me out the most about GS having a mega-team is that Westbrook can't be an explosive player forever and his clock is ticking.

I have followed the rumors pretty closely, read the entire ESPN interview transcript.  I still have no idea what he is actually pissed off about exactly.  He says it's not money, he loves his teammates. It's about management and feeling wanted...but not money???

The timberwolves are over the cap, they offered him a 4 year 120 million extension which was the most they are allowed by league rules.  Butler turned it down, which makes sense as he will be eligible for a 5 year 190 million deal next year.  Still the wolves did what they could this year to show Butler he was wanted.

The only other angle is Butler wanted his contract renegotiated THIS year.  Which from my understanding is allowed, but only if you can fit the new contract under the salary cap (which again the wolves are over).  So in theory they could move a bunch of contracts in order to get under the cap, but they would need to shed something like 30-35 million in deals to make that happen.  There is only one team under the cap right now, and not by that much, so it would be literally impossible for the Wolves to make that happen.  Even if that weren't the case the Wolves would need to attach so many picks to entice teams to take on their high salary players that they would completly destroy their future.

That can't be it can it?? Is Butler that stupid and selfish that he expects the Wolves to completly gut the team and their future so he can get paid ONE year earlier.  When they can give him the exact same deal next year without sacrificing the team and future? (which again is impossible due to leage rules at this point anyway)

Half of the transcript is Butler reiterating how he is 'honest' and wants the team to be 'honest' with him and make him feel wanted. They verbally praise him and offered him a massive contract. The only other thing I think they haven't done is send him a rose for every point he scores and pat his butt in the shower...
  • From what i understand it has nothing to do with appreciation or money at all.

Butler has said multiple times that he doesn't like the attitude of his teammates, whether he likes them or not. He doesn't feel winning is their top priority, and they have a nonchalant attitude to the game which he has no appreciation for.

Butler is a guy who wakes up at 4am to do insane workouts and the game is his number 1 priority. Jalen Brown on the Celtics worked out with him this summer and said he was an animal.

I think it most certainly is his teammates. His talent is being wasted where he is now, and if i were him and my teammates were just going through the motions and not giving it 100% i would be pissed too. BUT he should be working hard to make his teammates better. That is what a leader does. And he isn't the only great player on a team that doesn't have much else talent. It happens and is part of the game. You can't just whine like he seems to be.

Also keep in mind, there could be much behind the scenes stuff that we don't know. We only know the little pieces of info they choose to give to us. So who knows if other factors are at play.
  • Butler doesnt want to play with wiggins or towns. Especially wiggins and his max deal. He knows tgey arent going anywhere and the future isnt bright because or the dumb contracts of wiggins and dieng. He holds a grudge a out money because they got paid before he got paid snd ge views himself more important.

Cmon wolves lets workout a 3 team deal. Send dieng and your first round pick to sacremento. Rockets give sacremento a pick or 2. And rockets send eric gordon to wolves, and butler comes to houston. Houston may need a couple small contracts to ship out to kings to have outgoing salary work
  • If he would say he doesn't respect the effort level of Towns and Wiggins I would completely understand that take. He has said on multiple occasions that it isn't about them though, including in the interview he went on and on about his brutal honesty.

They weren't allowed to pay Butler before Towns and Wiggens, that doesn't mean they still wouldn't pay him. Unless he has been told otherwise. I haven't heard anything to that effect though.
  • Jimmy to the Rockets would be nice. It might put them over the edge to beat the Warriors and Jimmy getting a ring would be sweet.

edit: although with the Warriors most likely winning this year I hope Curry finally gets a FMVP. Would be garbage for a top 10 (if not top 5 all-time by the time he retires) player to not have an FMVP with 4 or more championships. Would probably be the one criticism of him when he retires.
  • The Rockets probably beat the Warriors if Paul doesn't get hurt, but availability is one of the best abilities to have.
  • I have 2 open spots in a 12 team fantasy basketball league. Mostly NA members, me terrheel, qixmaster, lukeaf24, nesfiend, questyen, and some friends of NA to round it out.

Leagues been around a few years and everyone is pretty committed. Looking for 2 more peeps to make it 12 team.

Draft is tomorrow night (sunday) i just need your email for yahoo invite. Buy in is 50 dollars this year. Its a head to head 9 category league. Pretty standard. Daily lineup setting. You can set up days in advance so it doesnt have to be every day. I just want someone who will be active.

If you like watching and keeping up with nba, fantasy basketball will be fun for you.
  • Butler to the rockets would be a dangerous team in the west. Houston almost beat GS as it is, if it wasn't for CP getting hurt.
  • If no butler, rockets are still more dangerous this year i think. Paul harden and melo all winning a championship together might break the internet with all their haters

Definitely. Carmelo anthony was a great addition, the team has a really solid chance of upsetting GS. Ariza was a solid player, but melo is a significant improvment IMO.

I also really like Eric Gordon. You guys have a really nice roster going on right now. Harden, CP, Melo, Capella, Gordon. You can definitely do some damage there.

I would love to see Celtics Vs. Rockets. Watching GS play is boring. And not just cause they win a lot.

I will never forget Hardens crossover from last year where after breaking the guys ankles he licked his lips and then made the 3 while he was on the floor.

Wolves want PJ Tucker + young assets and the Rockets are not willing to give PJ Tucker. Wolves would be much better off to let Butler walk at seasons end than make the trade to the Rockets. Why should the Wolves make the Rockets even stronger?

  • Dont forget pj tucker. Imo the glue of the team. Can defend practically every position and intense

Pj tucker isnt a young asset. Hes as old as melo. The benefit to the wolves is shedding diengs contract. And getting gordon who is a solid player in his prime. Letting him walk benefits them how? They get nothing, still stuck with diengs deal. Probably still dont want wiggins and are stuck with no assets besides picks and you cant trade consecutive years picks. To help unload them both. Jimmy is walking away if not traded. Using him to shed a bad contract and getting a legit player in gordon is much better than him walking away and nothing. Its not minnesotas dream scenario but its reality. Only so many teams are going to give anything for butler since he will walk away. Houston probably feels like they can re sign him since hes from tomball like 2 seconds away from houston
  • posted about fantasy basketball above

    Still need a couple
  • Giving up a 1st round pick on top of butler would be stupid. They aren't that desperate to unload Diengs contract. It's not like unloading him would give the Wolves the space to sign someone to a max free agent contract. They would be slightly under the cap, whoopie...

Butler won't walk at the end of the year. If he makes it that long he will resign with the Wolves. The wolves have his bird rights and can sign him for like 30% more and for an extra year than if he went through free agency. That's why he wants to be traded this year, because his new team would get those bird rights. That's also why the wolves still have some leverage to not take a garbage deal.

Butler is just being a diva, I don't believe he would walk away from like 50 million though.

What I was saying is that the Wolves not only want PJ Tucker included in the deal but also want assets included. The Rockets have no valueable assets like high first round picks or top drafted young players that can be included into a deal. Yes Gordon is a good solid shooter but he is under contract for 2 seasons. He can just leave after next season. The reason why I say the Wolves are better off letting him walk is because the reality is I doubt the Kings will take Dieng's contract. The picks people are talking about are low end first rounders and the Kings would want high end first rounders.  Gordon and Tucker to me wouldn't be enough for Jimmy Butler not only player wise but contract wise. Paying $22M for 2 players that probably wouldn't want to be in Minnesota anyway.
  • need one more for fantasy basketball draft tonight.
  • Laker fan here's but also don't like lebron

Now I'm stuck watching him >.>
  • Any of you guys catch the CP3 and Rondo scuffle lol What a joke.

Ingram is such a moron. Who sucker punches someone that is being held back like that? And who spits in someones face?

Of course they handed out light suspensions when compared to other events in the past because they likely don't want to hurt the Lakers this season too much since the playoffs can come down to just a game or two in the west.
  • Pauls two game suspension is way more monetary punishment thsn ingram or rondo. Kind of absurd.

lol security had to escort Anthony Kiedis out during that too for flipping off Paul and felling him to f*** himself.

Meanwhile Flea just sat there next to him totally chill and nonchalantly watched Anthony be escorted out of the arena lol

Yeah it makes no sense and yet it does. They just don't want to hurt the Lakers as the NBA is already struggling right now because of GS and the new Lakers are their hopes of keeping ratings.

So naturally they get off with a slap on the wrist. CP should of gotten 1 game max.

  • -Rondo breaks his hand

-KD and Draymond Green arguing on GS and feuding about free agency. Suspension and fines from within the team.

    -Butler goes to the 76ers

    -Celtics still struggling, especially Hayward

Lots of stuff going on in the NBA world right now. Really want to hear what Draymond Green has to say........
