hello. i'm new... 1 question...

i'm brand new to this site. i attended the Portland Retro Gaming Expo last week and met someone affiliated with Nintendo Age and i thought i'd check it out.

i collect NES primarily and have a little over 300 carts in my collection and am looking to expand it and, well, learn all there is to know!! (anyone want to hook me up with a sealed bubble bobble 2 at a good price?) image

Q: if anyone can help me, that would be cool - i have been looking at sealed NES games on ebay and have seen a few rated by VGA or www.vggrader.com . is this a reputable source? should the grading system be trusted? sealed games that have been graded by VGA are usually $100+ more than other similar sealed games. if this has already been answered, you can post the previous thread. secondly, does anyone ever worry about non-factory sealed games? what keeps someone from using new cellophane and wrapping an old box, cart, etc.? could you tell? any help would be awesome and would keep me from being ripped off on ebay!!

thanks!!

A new nintendo game has and H seal...the way that the plastic is melted to form the seals is in the shape of an H...this is distinctively shown by the line that is across the back of any factory sealed game..when bidding on ebay make sure you distinguish between the words sealed and factory seald for nes games....Good luck huinting my new found friend....
  • Hi and welcome to NA!!

VGA is considered a repuatble (i cant spell for squat) company. However, there is a can of worms on the debate on wether games SHOULD be graded in the first place. Just search the collectors corner in the subject. As I dont collect CIB or sealed I have no dog in that race.

As for people sealing games on their own...Well it does happen and quite a bit. There are many ways to tell. One way is to learn the "H" seam. That is how NOAs orignal seals were. Beyond that check the corners for signs of ware and check the "hinge" of the top flap again for signs of ware. I have only came across only one or 2 sealed games and they were from trusted members here. For deeper knowledge I will leave that to the sealed collectors here. They will know thousands times more than I do or probably ever will.
  • By the way, there was an article in a old eZine about factory seals, maybe someone knows the exact issue number.
