Probably an unpopular opinion, but Inception is my favorite movie of all time so by default I'd have to go with that one, although T-2 is an incredibly close second for me. I dunno if either of them are objectively the best, but subjectively those are definitely two of my favorites.
Honorable mentions to:
Star Wars Episodes 4 through 6
Terminator 1
The Avengers movies (Infinity War in particular)
The Indiana Jones movies
The James Bond movies (Skyfall & Casino Royale being my personal favorites)
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly (Technically a western but I think it still counts as action)
The Dark Knight Trilogy
Die Hard
The Matrix
Aliens
Mad Max: Fury Road
John Wick 1 & 2
Heat
300 (Not a popular pick I'm sure but I personally really like this movie)
The Mission Impossible movies
and I'm sure there are tons of other ones I didn't mention.
I watched the original Alien last night. I hadn't watched it since I was a little kid, and the only thing I remembered was the part were the Alien burst out of the guys chest, cause it scared the shit outta me when I was 10 years old! lol
I have to say, the movie has aged REALLY well! Hard to believe that it will be 40 years old in only a few months! The special effects are all really good, with the exception of when they are done talking to Ash after he's been decapitated.
I wouldn't consider this an action movie really though, more of a horror movie. It was still pretty scary overall, and must have scared the shit outta people in theaters back in 79!
For me it's The Dark Knight followed by Robocop. I love Terminator and it's definitely an action movie but I always liked it as a horror movie. Scared the hell out of me. The police station is supposed to be the safe zone... not to the Terminator.
You guys are such sheep. I'm going to go with a little known action movie that doesn't get the recognition it deserves as the real best action film ever made:
I can quote so many lines. Of course, most were more fond of the soundtrack (got that too).
It was one of the most ridiculous movies I saw as a kid. I figure anyone who’s seen it would just laugh at the fact someone else has also seen this film
Watched Aliens last night, and I have to say that it was really REALLY good! Definitely in the action movie top 5, but nothing can ever dethrone T2 for me at least. It meant too much to me as a little kid, and it seemed SO real back then!
Thirded. They Live is one of my favorite movies ever.
Robocop and Total Recall would be up there for me as well.
As great as they are, people like to forget the other Veerhoven classic, Starship Troopers. Like Robocop, if it's a movie you've only seen when you were young, watch it again in you'll get a whole new level of enjoyment from it.
Sidenote: I watched Under Seige the other night and am I the only one who is completely weirded out by Tommy Lee Jones' performance in that film? I mean Gary Busey is just weird af, we all know and accept that when we see him, but TLJ looks painfully out of place trying to be zany and off the wall personality.
I'm going Robocop. It's been my favorite since I was a little kid. For a time period my 8 year old self would have said Rambo 3 but that didn't last long. Red Foreman made one of the best movie villians of all time.

So if I'm allowed to vote for either of those two... that.
Tank Girl
LOL! That movie is a guilty pleasure for me.

Terminator 2
They live
Pretty good answer there bud!

Titanic
I got that reference.
Unless you weren't making a Jim Cameron reference.

Strange Brew
They should make a sequel and even bring back Rosie.
I don't even really like Die Hard.
Predator is great, but doesn't have the same level of epic destruction nor mass appeal.
Aliens is amazing, but most people can't relate to the setting / scenario like they can with Terminator 2.
Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) are both completely badass.
