RIP Emerson CRT TV

I finally finished unpacking all my shit at my new place and am sad to see that my Emerson VHS/DVD tv did not make it. When I press the power button, it makes a very quiet "whoosh"-type noise but nothing else. When I turned it off after dicking around with it for a few minutes, I did see the green and red VHS/DVD source lights turn on and then off, so it's not totally dead.

Are there any quick things I can check before giving up on it? Banging on it a few times did not help but seemed like a solid starting point. I've had it for quite a long time so it has some sentimental value to me.

  • Just go around the neighborhood I'm sure there is lots of em at the side of the road.
  • Yeah, already have an extra one just for this reason. Thanks for the input.
  • Right to the garby, lots of tubes in value village waiting to get scooped up
  • I'm thinking about driving an hour to pick up a KV-36FV300 tomorrow. Do you guys think it's worth it? The KV-36KV310 is supposedly the best gaming SD TV ever made, and this one is very similar. Only missing one spec I believe.

Like for free? Is this a real question? I don't know much about old crts, but if this is the best one, get it! Its not like these are gonna get any easier to find!
  • Ask a tv repair shop (if you can find one)

and share your time machine with us while you're at it
  • I've conceded defeat on the old Emerson. I feel bad since it's not going to be easy to find another tube TV on craigslist or on a curb a few years from now. I haven't seen one in a thrift store in at least 5 years since they don't even take them anymore, so they're all going to the landfill in droves.
  • I got super lucky when my RCA ProScan Died. I was able to find another one just like it at Goodwill within a few days. This was about a year ago. I liked that one because it has an incredible amount of inputs in the back, and video output as well so I can record gameplay without using a splitter.

If you look around, you're sure to come across something good.
  • Thrift stores around here don't sell TVs anymore. At least the Goodwills don't. A smaller one of store does but they're never good ones. I think they're the same TVs that have been there for a few years now because no one wants them.

I'm still trying to find a good CRT.

My neighbor trashed one of these brand new a few months back, literally in the box never used. Picked that sucker up and it sits in my game room now. I asked him why and he said it’s old stock that he had left over from a business and that he has a few more in storage and that I’m welcome to get them when ever I want they ain’t going anywhere.

He was gonna sell that one on Craig’slist but the person never picked it up and left it in the garage.

He gave you the FV300 or the FV310?  Either way, they are top of the line models.  I'm really considering picking it up this week, but it weighs over 250 lbs and the owner said they can't help me load it into my car. WTF! lol

    310

Dude, you should take the rest of them from him, assuming they're free.  That's the highest end commercial SD TV ever made, along with the Kv-32XBR100

Dude, you should go pick those up and offer then to local Nintendoage members.
