Do unlicensed games play natively or do they need a mod chip/ boot disc
They would almost certainly need a mod chip or boot disc.
I'd agree with this and would go so far as to say that any second hand machine bought here is likely to have been modded at some point. Although everyone preferred N64 over here, PlayStation was the big seller due to the ease of copying discs.
I don't own a PlayStation so I can't comment further on this though, and not sure if OptOut has a PS or even if he would want to try loading these in his machine.
I'll try getting a machine in April, to continue studying this.
Look at you, lol, begging and pleading for a PlayStation when you had several opportunities to buy some filthy busted up old ones when we were out the other day! Told you you should have picked one up, lol!
I do have a PlayStation, the one you gave me... I take it that doesn't work though! And I also have the PS3 you gave me, again don't know if it works or would even boot this disc.
PlayStation sucks anyway, who wants to deal with that nonsense!

If it doesn’t play on a retail system then it isn’t as unique. There are plenty of those out there.
Max Play Classic games for the GameCube is unlicensed and I think you can play it on a retail system.
Pro action replay on GameCube is an unlicensed disc but it plays on a standard system with no mods. I wish they’d share their secret so we could make home brew GameCube games that don’t need mod chips.
