I don't even really like Die Hard.

Predator is great, but doesn't have the same level of epic destruction nor mass appeal.

Aliens is amazing, but most people can't relate to the setting / scenario like they can with Terminator 2.

Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) are both completely badass. <3<br />

    Vasquez too.

Hell yeah for aliens! Express elevator to hell go down!
  • Robocop, Die Hard <- not just greatest action movies, but possibly greatest movies of all time.

I was beginning to wonder if I'd be the first to call this one.

Also, I'm not going to say it's the best, and I can't recall if I mentioned this here or on Reddit, but I saw Waterworld for the first time about a year ago.  I could tell it wasn't a great action film from it's time, but I had mad appreciation for the FX because everythings CGI now.  I really, really enjoyed the film but not for the story but for the sheer effort and work that you could tell went into making it.  As you start to say when you get older... they don't make them like they use too.

And throwing one more out there going waaaaaay back, I think the chariot scene in Ben Hur is still amazing to this day and I'd count that as "action".
  • Big Trouble in Little China, (like the Goonies) is one of the movies that is better in my mind than what they actually made, because the part that we remember it for (that is actually awesome) got too little screentime... With Goonies, we remember it as a little kids version of Indiana Jones exploring the underground caves and dodging traps... that part only makes up about 15% of the movie! Same with big trouble in little china, I remember it being this awesome kung fu & magic/fantasy world hiding just below the surface of chinatown, but that part is so brief compared to the rest of it.

  • Even tho its not my personal favorite (it is quite high tho), gotta go with T2. My person favs are Commando, Robocop 1 and 2, Die Hard, Predator, most 80s Arnold really.

And is Alien really an action movie and not sci-fi?

But i like Die hard more overall.

And if we throw in Sci-Fi, the Matrix is probably my favorite of all time.

If we throw in sci-fi I'm going with Aliens.

It's either T2 or Aliens. Both sequels and both James Cameron. It's those two and everything else. I do have a soft spot for Die Hard but everyone knows that's a Christmas movie.
  • Okay, want to change my answer. Can't believe I didn't say this before but

  • Starship Troopers.

LOL! That movie is a guilty pleasure for me.

I can quote so many lines. Of course, most were more fond of the soundtrack (got that too).

It was one of the most ridiculous movies I saw as a kid. I figure anyone who’s seen it would just laugh at the fact someone else has also seen this film
