Really? This diminishes your faith? I thought it'd be something more like this.

  • here's another thing that really CHAPS MY HIDE!!!! a mf who's charging like a $1000 for a game but still insists on $2 shipping. Like dude just pick up the tab dude! fuckin ay!!
  • What really gets me is the whole craigslist thing. I know it has been mentioned in this thread. But when people say, "I know what I have" when all they are selling is like $10 maybe $15 games for double and they be like, "no lowballs." Dude get the heck out of this hobby. You don't deserve to be here and you don't deserve to even own a retro video game let alone sell one.

Your making the assumption the people doing the grading are experts. I dont care if people wany to grade their games buts i dont believe these people are experts

I think that's the main issue. I don't have a problem with grades but I can't be certain the people doing the grading are actually experts. Not saying they aren't experts but if Im not 100% certain, they won't get any money from me

Problem is that they don't have a public standard available on how they grade and what they are looking at when they grade. In cards and coins and other collectibles people can guesstimate a grade pretty well because it is know what the graders look for and how much a defect can knock down a grade. Theres not enough public info about vva for me to accept them as any kind of an authority

You're missing my point, I'm not so concerned with how nice the quality is, I can judge that for myself by looking at the photos. What I like about VGA grading is that it has been authenticated so I know it's real, not a fake. Condition-wise I can decide for myself but it's nice to know I have a real authetntic item and don't need to worry about getting scammed with something fake.

To be fair, anyone with grading experience / using the VGA can generally estimate their grades within a half deviation, perhaps a full grade at most. For example, you will know if an item is 85+, but may not be confident on a 90, or vice versa. Very rarely have I ever been "surprised" by a grade I received.
  • Not only is it "rare" but it's in "good condition for a game this old."

That makes sense. They want people to keep using their service, so they'll toss out grades that generally meet expectations.

In order to meet expectations, the people submitting the items must have expectatios that can be met. I'm not sure if you're insinuating that they just give high grades to appease people, but I assure you, an 85 or above requires an exceptionally nice item.
  • I don't mind these things. I also don't mind hitting the refund button when items aren't exactly as described or a perfect match to the picture used. Forget contacting the seller and talking it out or any of that bs. I might have let someone slide 10 - 15 years ago, but everybody knows the rules these days. I'm not putting up with "Great Condition" carts with "Devon"s name on the back, especially not with the prices we're paying for this stuff now.

No hang tab on my Mickey Mouse game when the picture clearly shows it? Refund.

That is what I mean. People sending in a good item will generally get a good grade. It's to VGA's benefit to remain consistent and within expectations. Otherwise no one would spend $40 a pop on what is essentially a gamble.

But in the end, it is just a confirmation of what the owner of the item already believes. He just now has a number and a nice case to go with it.

  • eBay has become something like a regular shop in Germany. Like 90% of the stuff on there is just shops selling their games for regular prices and 10% is from people selling their games for ~85% of the original price.
  • OMG RAREZZZ!!! L@@K!!!!!

Unbelievable luck that I stumbled upon such RARE games at such great prices!
  • What if Conker's BFD is listed as RARE?

Well, what if the seller puts $1,002 + Free shipping. Hmmm.
  • it might be rare in their area but they rest of the country, it might be plentiful
  • Who cares

    nvm this is old.

Still.... who cares? Why does this affect people. If search fields are keyword related. And can be seen by google search then you will see keywords spamming listings. Who cares. No need to get worked up about little crap like this.
  • I saw a "Rare" copy of Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt at a Rare price of $29.99 BIN.
  • RARE 1980's large Domino's brand pizza STILL IN BOX!
  • I know they really need to ban that cliche rare word from Feebay listings    What about those of us who like our #9 well done?

All games loose and he says prices are firm. People can ask what they want for their stuff it's just comical sometimes and those games will never sell. He even has some common games listed at only $5 so I scratch my head at those other game prices.

NH Craigslist? Yeah, i dont even bother anymore. I havent found a collection of anything worth buying in over 2 years. Everyone on CL seems to think they can charge Gamestop prices and make you come to them. And no lowball offers, i know what this stuff is worth.
  • To be fair, many buyers lowball sellers. It's happened to me lots of time here. "Oh hey, I'll give you $50 for that" when the game is worth $125. So it's a two-way street. Some sellers sell too high, and buyers think lowball offers will actually be considered - they're not.
  • There is an Uber rare Pro Wrestling on EBay right now. $27.99 + Shipping and it's yours.
  • You seeing this shit, mfs!!!???

I know I'm a bit late for the party, but the truly sad part is that someone will pay that price.  If they didn't people would stop asking for it.  You see this at thrift stores all the time.  Random person comes in, sees mario 2 for $25 and says "it's a thrift store, everything is cheap.  Lucky me for finding this steal first."  It sells in a day or two and the employees are further emboldened.  Truly sad.
