I've been predicting for a while now that in 20 years, the equivalent of today's homebrew developers will be working on their own fixes and patches for these games since the servers and Sony/Microsoft's support for these games will be long gone.
Oh for sure. You'll also see consoles with PSN and XBL games that you can't get anymore going to steep prices (some already sell like this now).

Funny thing about THPS5, it was also Activision (again!) rushing the developers, mainly because of the license was about to be up iicr?
Yeah, I think I read that as well. It's just amazing the shit that's accepted these days.

Yeah, but I also believe that a lot of those games will be available in other ways that are similar to the way we've been getting old game ROMs for a while now. I know this has changed a bit in the past year due to actions taken by Nintendo, but this will never go away completely.
I'm on the fence with this same declaration...if Sony has taught me anything, if you wait 3-6 months you can get a sweet LE edition of their systems that will make you regret getting the original lol.

I'd wait mainly for the inevitable breakage these systems now-a-days seem to have at launch.

Right, but they have certainly made improvements. The reliability of the current generation consoles (even at launch) is light years ahead of what we all dealt with during the previous gen.

Yup, once it's out of warranty you'll be launchin it in the fuckin garb-o.

Definitely, but you'll still have the hardcore crowd (like us here collecting NES games) that will want the "as original of an experience as possible".
It'll be fun/interesting to see how things go, though! I do hope next gen doesn't goes all digital, otherwise it'll be the first generation I potentially skip and/or switch over to PC gaming.

I've been waiting a while to play these. I don't think I have it in me to wait for an updated ps5. (Not to mention, Odallus, Odiken, Celeste, R-type dx, the Messenger, and Bloodstained curse of the Moon.)
I do hope next gen doesn't goes all digital, otherwise it'll be the first generation I potentially skip and/or switch over to PC gaming.
They have confirmed that the next gen PlayStation will be able to play discs.
With that said, I was actually almost hoping that it would be digital only so that I would have an excuse to skip it (I may skip it anyway, but the decision will be harder with physical media available).

I feel the same. I would skip it without question if it were digital only. I'm just tired of going through consoles so quickly, so I may sit PS5 out as well, but it will be hard to say no if the rumors of full Playstation library backwards compatibility (1,2,3 & 4) are true, and even if it's only BC with PS4 it would make it more enticing. But either way I'll wait a few years before getting it (if I get it at all) since I barely scratched the surface of the PS4 library.

They'v3 got to be careful when they release it. Christmas was less than 4 months ago and sold a bunch of PS4's. I know the PS4 has been out a while, but they have to find that sweet spot were they get a lot of people yo buy into the next gen.
On a side note, with the PS5 being backwards compatible and the shit ton of PS4's that are out there, the PS4 should be selling for $50 in 2=3 years.

May want to check compatibility. It could be like Microsoft's BC where it's done by patches (or it used to be, anyway)

That's true. So it would be BC via emulation as opposed to natively. I've heard XB1's BC is actually very good though, quality-wise. I almost wanted to pick up an XB1 just for access to OG Xbox and 360 games since I never had those systems.

Oh it’s pretty dang good for sure.
If you want an xbone, I have a launch day sealed still
I echo that, I love my XB1 for the BC capabilities and it does work very well.
I got the vibe that the PS5 would play PS4 discs, given it's based on the same architecture. At least that's how the Wired article came off to me. I don't want to download 15-80GB games I already have, my HDD space is precious I tell ya!

That's exactly what I believe the interviewed Sony person confirmed - PS4 discs will work in the PS5 due to similar architecture, though I wouldn't be shocked if it's still reliant on software patches/updates (and possibly an emulation mode to separate the PS4 and PS5 side of things)

confirming yet again that the PS5 will have backwards compatibility. Since it has a similar architecture to the PS4, it will be able to play games designed for the current-gen console and will also be compatible with the current version of PlayStation VR.
The GPU will support ray tracing, which is a rendering technique limited to high-end gaming PCs at the moment, and will provide the console with immersive 3D audio.
In addition, the PS5 will use SSDs for storage instead of hard drives. The SSD, along with its other components, lead to a significant speed bump: at the event, Sony showed how the PS5 is around ten times faster than the PS4 Pro when it comes to loading complex scenes.
Sounds good!
And perhaps most importantly for those still not sold on going 100 percent digital: it will still have support for physical discs, though Sony didn't mention what discs it'll be able to play other than PS4 games.
That's less than ideal, but okay will wait and see.
Plus, it intends to to leverage its partnership with Microsoft to "achieve growth and scale faster than ever before." The two tech giants recently announced their team up to build technologies for gaming and content streaming.

It's been confirmed PS4 backwards compatibility. I wouldn't count on PS3 and prior, but at least there's that.
Oh is it? I haven't been following the news closely. That's good to know, at the very least if I do get it I can sell my PS4.
May want to check compatibility. It could be like Microsoft's BC where it's done by patches (or it used to be, anyway)

If you want an xbone, I have a launch day sealed still
I got the vibe that the PS5 would play PS4 discs, given it's based on the same architecture. At least that's how the Wired article came off to me. I don't want to download 15-80GB games I already have, my HDD space is precious I tell ya!

I have a Master Cheif bundle Xbone! Hit me up! I Trade!
I echo that, I love my XB1 for the BC capabilities and it does work very well.

That's exactly what I believe the interviewed Sony person confirmed - PS4 discs will work in the PS5 due to similar architecture, though I wouldn't be shocked if it's still reliant on software patches/updates (and possibly an emulation mode to separate the PS4 and PS5 side of things)

Lol, thanks but I'm pretty broke right now plus don't have anything good to trade. Maybe in the future!
confirming yet again that the PS5 will have backwards compatibility.
Meh.
