New GameCube memory cards on eBay legit?

Hi there!

Wondering if anybody knows if the large amount of relatively cheap GameCube memory cards are counterfeits such as below?

I mean they look legit enough, and claim to be, but just a little weary about trusting  hours on something like Skies of Arcadia on them.

  • Hard saying, the picture is not the greatest. It's possible these were left in a warehouse and they are blowing them out. You could still order official GC accessories from distributors up until I wanna say 2008/2009.
  • Goto neg feedback on the seller, there are customers saying the cards are fakes.
  • I mean there is several negative feedback of not real gamecube memory card, so I would probably be cautius.
  • Thanks guys!

Actually got one maybe a year and a half ago?  Not from this seller, but similar listing.  Am I correct the best way to tell would be opening up the card?
  • The picture looks legit but that could be a stock image or old photo. So they're probably shipping counterfeits but have a legit picture. Always ask for more pictures if you're unsure of what you're getting. If the seller is flakey, that's a red flag that you might be buying a counterfeit item.
  • The bootleggers are pretty good at copying the packaging.
  • Yeah, I just checked the feedback too, and saw one negative saying it wasn't genuine. Everyone else on there seemed very happy with their purchase, but that one red flag is probably enough to sink the whole thing. I mean, actually I use 3rd party memory cards on my N64 all the time, I'm not against 3rd party stuff in general. But, if you are going out of your way to buy a brand new GENUINE memory card, then yeah I'd steer clear.
  • Thanks again guys!

Did a little looking around, and seems there are just a lot of convincing fakes around. My packaging for the one I bought a while ago looks exactly like in this video which claims it is a fake. Going to open mine up soon, and see if it matches the video.

Edit:  Seems if that video is to be believed they are incredibly convincing fakes.

Really?  I have a few 3rd party memory cards for the n64 and every one of them deletes itself after a certain amount of time.  With that said, even the first party ones do it occasionally.  I have had worse luck with n64 3rd party cards than with any other system.  Is there a certain 3rd party company that made good ones or is it a problem with the system itself?

  • I still have several Memory Card 1019 packages sealed from when I bought them on clearance at Wal-Mart around 2006/2007. What if I look inside one and find the blob?

Honestly if you could spare, pease do.  Read some debate on GC-forever on whether the blob actually meant it was a fake.

I’ll see what I can do! Gotta dig ‘em out.

  • Blobs don't automatically make it fake. I've seen legit Super Mario Bros for NES and Star Fox for SNES with blobs.

The lack of Nintendo branding on the board and the non-gold pins are the giveaway.

JoyTech ones are my favourites, as you can replace the batteries without unscrewing or desoldering anything. I have a couple other 3rd party cards that I use, as well as 1st party cards of course, but never had an issue with JoyTech and a fresh battery.
