WATA CIB's

Wondering what the group thinks about what to include in the WATA CIB submission process. I’m sending in a chronotrigger and harvest moon on snes and wanted to know whether I should include the registration cards. Not sure about the process, if included; will the registration card get noted on the case, or is it just game, box, manual....if not included; will the game not be considered CIB?

Is this a bust when it comes to graded CIB? Cause my CIB’s with all the inserts and reg cards have to be worth more than the same CIB with a game, box, manual.

My thoughts; if no mention of these rare gems, maybe I should hold them back and add it to a less minty copy...as these cards are sometimes more sought after than the manual itself.

Looking forward to seeing what the group thinks

  • Wata only grades cart-instructions-box. Even posters, maps, and reg cards that we are 100% sure came with every copy of a game are not required and don't factor into the grade. Whatever is included is mentioned on the banner on the box as a game specific insert.

Buy the game and not the grade. Wata certifies "cart-instr-box" games, you have to look and determine if it's complete. Personally I wouldn't even bother grading a CIB game if it's not 100% complete (if at all).
  • Don't be fooled into thinking the 'junk mail' inserts of your CIB really mean anything in the bigger picture of collecting...
  • They only include game specific inserts on the label(maps, posters, etc.) If it's a publisher specific insert like a registration card it does not get published on the label. The only way to view if these inserts are in the box is to use their mobile app and scan the matrix code, which is not yet available.

Which does seem kind of silly, especially on RPGs where if they don't include the map or game specific reg card, no one is going to want it.  Because once it is slabbed, people are buying the grade and everything else is noise.

I get if they don't want to grade the inserts themselves, but you'd think that it would somehow translate into the overall grade or a big huge note on the case.  There is a significant premium on 100% complete games in the retail market.
  • I wouldn't even consider Captain Skyhawk complete unless it came with the poster let alone an RPG. If it just has Cart/Disk + Manual + Box then it's just a boxed game.

RPGs with inserts are absolutely essential to the game. The letter for Star Tropics is probably the biggest example of a requirement for the game...also without the map for Zelda you have to rely on Nintendo Power just to know where to start playing.

I actually thought WATA only graded 100% complete stuff. Makes me wonder if that CIB Zelda had the map.

Good to know, is there an ETA on when the app will be available?

I agree, but put yourself in their shoes.    Same problem VGA has with qualified.   How do you prove it.   How do you know its 100% complete?   That information isn't really perfectly identified at that time.   Different versions of the same game can have different contents, etc etc.   Its a mess to try and police whether something is 100% complete.

I don't like the end result either, but I see where they are coming from.

Yeah, according to their FAQ, May 2018. I think they're slightly behind schedule though, but hey what's another year.

Going by this, the posters and Reg card for Chrono trigger would all be assigned a grade, but not factored into the overall CIB grade. Far better than simply not grading the game specific stuff.

Great description and it makes perfect sense to me. My OCD really wants "affect" changed to "effect" though, especially since it's used in the same phrase in consecutive paragraphs

  • Great article / description. This clears up a lot. Thanks

Had the same question, thanks OP for asking, thanks Wata for answering!

BTW, where can we find the GSI or PSI of games?

Thanks for the article link, good read!

I’ve asked this before in the main WATA discussion thread but don’t think I got a response. My question was does WATA distinguish between a CIB that’s new as opposed to a CIB that’s used? I’m referring to mainly boxed games which never originated as factory sealed.

eg. CIB 90 (new) vs CIB 90 (used)

And as an extension, is there mention of CIB new opened vs unopened?
