  • Lol im struggling a bit too. I think the Dragon Ride date definitely advanced the plot to a degree and led in nicely to Sam telling Jon he is Aegon. The inter-family lovebirds now have their private jets over Westeros and Essos.

Now the real question is...why were the dragons okay with Tyrion getting so close to them a few seasons back...

Damn that never crossed my mind other than what Tyrion said about them knowing he was their friend. Good catch. Tywin always said he was no son of his...

  • Great set up episode. That tormund giant story was hilarious. Funniest moment on the show.

Next week is going to be crazy. Builds up to this. 1 hour 20 minutes. I heard 32 straight minutes of battle.
  • To all the new viewers of this series who happen to read this thread in the future.

Once you get to season 8 you can skip the first two episodes.

    Nothing happens,
  • ? Cmon man so many reuniting characters. Reveals to certain characters. This is game of thrones what show habe you been watching. Without these moments action and death mean nothing. It makes the show good. You already knew what these were going to be about. I said last week episode 2 is going to end with them approaching and right before battle. It didnt make it any less great of an episode.

To future watchers. Watch these episodes they are good.
  • I love Tormund. I hope he survives... Brienne getting knighted made me cry a bit. Arya all over Gendry...kind of weird, but what isn't weird in this series?

Good reunion episode. Didn't expect much this episode, got more of a battle preparation than anything.  But seeing all of the characters interact with each other, it was good to see.

    Next episode, I cannot wait.

They only released the title of episode 3 pre season “ battle of winterfell”

it pretty much shouldve given a big clue that the first episode os setting up location, 2nd episode lead up to the battle.

I had no problem with tonight's episode.  I knew it was going to be like this.  I love the banter and the interactions with everyone.  Sansa embracing Theon when he arrived also made me cry dammit.  He did so much wrong in the past and he's wanting to right himself in every way possible.  He knows he will most likely die protecting Bran in the Godswood.

The army of dead is slowly marching toward Winterfell absorbing all that stand in their way into its army. None of it filmed. We are expected to  just guess at that. Instead all the small details that don’t take much guessing at all are all laid out in great detail in a two episode stall of what everyone has been waiting for since the end of season 7.

and it has been really good. All ive seen is people loving these last two episodes. You are definitely in the minority on this one. This show isnt about superficial action every second. You cant just jump to a battle without any build up. People got upset in season 7 with stuff happening so fast. They slow down for one second even though its still pretty quick and now people are upset without a battle every episode or someone dying apparently with your reply lol.

The build up makes the show payoff well. You sound like a person who binge watches everything.
  • Yeah the first 2 episodes so far have been great. It's a new season, we need time to reabsorb the relationships and statuses.

I suppose your ideal season 7 would have been just straight to Aria killing Baelish, none of the lead up eh?

Yeah I’m the guy that skips all the cutsceens in videogames.

Sure not every second needs to be action but they could easily have put in some.

The past few season did seem rushed you are right. That has more to do with the quality of storytelling which hasn’t been the same since the show caught up with the novels.

Skipping all the cutscenes in games sounds absolutely dreadful.

In games like Fallout I do like to go back and see what all the different dialog options reveal but yeah for the most part if there is no user intervention I can’t sit and watch it all there if a skip option is available.

  • I'm not the only one who feels this way. This was the first hit on google when I looked for a season 8 review.

'Game of Thrones' Review: The Final Season Keeps Stalling in a Frustrating 'Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'

    https://www.indiewire.com/2019/04/game-of-thrones-review-season-8-episode-2-a-knight-of-the-seven-kingdoms-spoilers-1202060757/

  • I just typed in the same thing and got different results. Your negativity leaks into your search results. Google knows you

Haters are the loudest. Its the cool thing to do. Everything Ive read seems like people are liking it.
  • Yeaaaahhhh that article and many of the people who have this opinion forgets one minor teensy tiny detail - there are 6 episodes total for this season, each lasting an hour PLUS. We're in the final stretch here.

Keep in mind that the next episode is supposed to be feature-length AND a third at least is supposed to be just straight up battle. That's a lot of battle. At the end of the day GoT isn't an action series, it's a political war drama.

IMO it's important that we get some full-circle stuff like Jaime coming to the north and seeing Bran for instance. It's a pretty short chat they have but at the same time it kinda brings the ENTIRE SHOW full circle.

At the end of it all I think it'll be really good to remember that these are the stories of people. These are characters that we're following, not battles. So fuck yeah - gimme these character episodes. Love it.
  • Man, I don't feel like these episodes could have been any better. You get to see how everyone has come back together and grown since they hadn't seen each other (which for some hadn't been since the first season). The buildup for next week has been AWESOME. The way they have them chatting sitting around cutting up knowing they're probably all going to die by morning, as they keep saying, its just all around great. Its the calm before the storm.
  • I thought the first episode dragged a bit but I thought last night's episode was amazing in pretty much every aspect.
  • Looking back I think these episodes will be fine, but I can understand the feelings of those who were disappointed. I'm not sure a slow burn start to the season was the best choice given that we had to wait almost 2 years between seasons 7 and 8. If someone were watching them on DVD and could jump right into these two episodes from the season 7 finale, I'm sure they would be viewed much more favorably all around.

I am also surprised how little has happened based on the fact we know there are only 4 eposides left.  Are they going to end the entirety of the White Walker story in one single episode?

They also seem to have brough the teleporters back, as Theon was able to get from the seas outside of Kings Landing to Winterfell in one day.  I also thought the scene was odd with Therion asking Bran to tell him his story which they made a point about how long it would take, then the next scene he is sitting at the fire drinking with his brother.  Did Bran say "F off man, I'm not telling you".
  • I have a feeling any B/C character that got a substantial amount of screen time in the second episode will die in the battle. Goodbye Brienne, Pod, Tormund, Ser Jorah, Samwell, Gilly, Greyworm, Missandi, Gendry, Beric, Lyanna

So in other words you would have been happier if they had extended season 7 to 10 episodes instead of the 7 and hashed it all out quickly?  Pretty sure that would have been a big rushed let down as we've been following these characters and their relationships for half a decade to be honest.  Now the 2 year wait...not a fan of that but so far happy with the quality.

How true is this statement lol.

I also wondered why so many were okay getting sloshed knowing they could go into a biblical sized battle at any given moment.  I suppose a glass or two might sway off the anxiety of the battle to come.

You do realize that events arent happening at times shown on the show right? That scene could have easily been when jamie left timeframe and he got there right after jamie. They all traveled to winterfell. He said he was going to save yara last season, so he wasnt leaving last episode and arriving next day. His story of saving yara delayed him what a day? He showed up a little after everyone else. Makes easy sense to me. Why would you say its a day?

I dont get the complaint about time jumps? They have never taken me out of the show or bothered me one bit. The show is clearly not showing scenes happening at the same times. They are fast forwarding through time often to get to the important moments. Most of them when analyzed can be plausably explained. I just dont understand this complaint at all.
  • ^haha, whatever you have to tell yourself Jeff. They don't bother me, I just think they are funny and show a major lack of continuity and I get a kick out of making fun of it. It's taken the White Walkers 10 f'n years to walk from up north to Winterfell.

Far as I can tell they've not been marching all this time. Consider that Craster was sacrificing babies to the walkers for years, which tells me they were working on building an army if anything. They certainly weren't MOVING a whole lot.

Consider also that the white walkers have been in in-universe lore for a LONG time. Presumably they have been gathering power for many years. It just happens that now they are ready to actually March on the southern regions.
  • I'm happy so many great characters are safe in the crypts. And they sure made a point of saying who's going to the crypts, and how safe the crypts are. They'll sure be safe in those crypts. Down in the crypts when the army of the dead comes. I'm just so happy they're so safe!

I'm not sure if it was a joke to the audience how much they hammered that one home
  • Good point...Tormund and team said they "had to go around the walkers" to get to Winterfell from Last Hearth. How in the world could they pull that off? That gave me chills knowing that the Walkers were very close - glad that Walker War is going to be mid-season.

Until theyre all down in the crypts because its safe for them. Then the Night King comes and the safe crypts turn to be not so safe because all the dead inside the crypts rise as the undead army. But its safe in the crypts.

How could they pull it off?

Maybe dead people don't walk so fast eh?
