  • Agreed. That was one of the most exciting first rounds of playoff hockey I can remember seeing. Lots of crazy games, upset-eliminations, and some super competitive series.
  • Yea I felt a lot of those series could have been played in a later round or even the Stanley cup, judging from the intensity they had. They were pretty damn good.
  • That was an incredible first round.
  • Vegas should petition the league to have that game replayed. That call was so unfair.

This is as good as you're gonna get:  http://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/26603014/knights-sharks-refs-officiate-2nd-round

  • So you all want a bunch of crap teams advancing far? Not the most talented? No one is going to watch now that Tampa, Pitt and the caps are out. preds and Calgary too. Their ratings are going to suck big time this year

If only there was some fair way to determine what teams advance....oh wait

Just for context, I am a Tampa fan.  So yeah, I'm dissapointed they're out, but I also understand they played like shit and deserve to be out.  Same can be said for Pittsburgh, and to a lesser degree, Nashville, Winnipeg and Calgary.  Washington and Vegas put up a much better fight, but in the end they weren't the better team, and they're out too.  So am I going to pout about it?  Nope, these playoffs have been highly entertaining and I'm going to continue watching.  Having some different teams battle for the cup will be refreshing, and I'm sure the ratings will be just fine.  Maybe the bandwagon fans will stop watching, but I don't think many people will lose sleep over that

I believe they call those teams cinderella teams in college basketball... And ends up being the most watched/covered tournament every year. I could be mistaken...

Lol the best team does not always advance. See every 15 or 16 seed that won and immediately got bounced in the next round in March madness
  • March Madness is a 1 loss tournament. A best of 7 is a lot better at finding out the better team. The Flames looked unbeatable after game 1 before getting dominated the next 4 games.

Dont be a sour puss because your team is out, my team is out too and I still enjoy the hell outta the playoffs this year

You are mistaken. Everyone wanted a Duke vs UNC round 4, or at least Kentucky or Gonzaga. Not Virginia, the only 1 to lose to a 16 vs Texas tech who had never made it past the elite 8. 2 not great teams reaching a finals is bad for sports. 1 great and one bad is fine because then you can have fun rooting for the underdog vs goliath

These are 7 game series. Not one and done, so if they cant figure it out how to get 4 wins in 7 or less tries they dont deserve to advance.

    Lol.

Agreed but that still doesn't mean the best team advanced. Look at the 73-9 Golden State warriors. Everyone can agree they were the best team that year by a mile, but did they win it all? Nope

The team that wins isn't always the best team. They could be the luckiest because of matchups, or some other variables could impact why they won it all (injuries, weather, etc)
  • I don't think Capt is saying the BEST team advances especially when you have close matchups like that or a 7 game series.

He is just saying that a best of 7 is a far better method at determining who should move on than a 1 match elimination.

When it comes to sports obviously the best team statistically overall can have a shit game which is why 1 match eliminations are stupid at least with a best of you have a chance to redeem yourself.
  • Sharks won game 1 before getting absolutely destroyed, so single elimination is fine for me too

I get that. There's a difference between being the best in the regular season and being "the best" in the playoffs. Some teams play completely differently during each one. All it takes is one serious injury or one bad call or bad weather and it changes a series. That's why the regular season is the only way to truly determine who the best really is.
  • Well stick to Premier League soccer then, only sport I can think of with no playoff
  • Yeah just don't be foolin around at the soccer game.

Cycling, horse racing, Nascar, track, swimming, tennis, and probably quite a few more.
  • Nascar actually does have a playoff now lol.
  • Tennis is nothing BUT playoffs hahahaha

And horse racing has the Triple Crown.
  • Anyway, GO BLUES!!!

Lol those are not playoffs. Those are matches and races. Triple crown is a series of individual races. Playoffs are used to determine a single championship from the entire season of that sport. By your logic, the triple crown is 3 championships and 3 playoffs, which means they aren't playoffs.

Might want to read up on what playoffs even are. Here
Playoff - noun, "a series of contests played to determine the winner of a championship, as between the leading teams in different divisions or leagues."
  • Hurts to see the Caps out, especially to the Canes, so I guess my rooting interest pivots west. I'd be cool with the Sharks, Blues, or Avs winning it all.

They looked brutally uninspired in Game 7.

I'm hoping the Sharks figured it out in the first round, they looked the same way in several of their games.   With the Avs only having one real scoring line, hopefully the Sharks can figure out how to shut them down and force other lines to make plays (or make their coach break up that line).

  • Blues tried to give it away last night, but somehow held on. That 3rd period was nuts!
