Congrats on the NWC Adam! I feel pretty good having a picture atleast of myself holding that street fighter painting even before it was framed! I wanted so bad to begin my life that day as a criminal but I couldn't talk myself into it.
Congrats on the purchase. This is the kind of thread that keeps me going. Congrats on the sale. I know you will miss the piece but that's a nice payday and another piece added that you'll keep around I'm sure. Well done.
Kind of an unusual thread I must say. Topic title says about a rare game, and most discussions are relating to rare art!
That SF 2 Turbo painting is unbelievably sexy both for the artistic style but also the nostalgic kick seeing that hundred-hand slap by fatty E. Honda! Lol
Congrats to all parties obtaining all those rare cart/paintings/cash!!
someone to explain what the "painting" is and why it costs like a nice house?
A one of a kind item of a huge media franchise beloved by millions of people.
Its in between the realm of owning the original air brush painting of movies like Star Wars, or the original cover art for any given issue of a comic like Spider-Man.
this was made in 2 copies by capcom usa ? or the base drawing commissioned for the boxart ? googled but came up with nothing
Its the original painting.
Look at the box. Those characters don't exist in real life, and this is before photoshop, so someone had to literally paint that scene with paint/ brushes/ airbrush on an actual illustration board (think canvas but stiffer than that). This is that painting. Pre-dates the release of the game, hand made, one of a kind, the genuine article. Every box you've ever seen of that game is a reproduction of this painting.
This is how every box was created until about 1995. Most of the paintings don't exist any more or are corporate owned.
I don't know what your avatar is offhand, but that's clearly a painting too, and somewhere out there, the original painting to your avatar is either owned by someone or was at some point destroyed. Same with my avatar. Same with Captain Morgan's. Gunpei's avatar, on the other hand, the original for that is known to exist and is owned by Steven Spielberg (mad #1 cover illustration).
During the whole process Adam was a great guy to deal with!
I do feel a bit bad to let the NWC go, because I know the chance of ever getting a new one in that condition is very low. (impossible)
Nevertheless it was time for the NWC to get a new owner.
Adam, congrats again!
Missed that thread, don't come here often. Most of the traffic happens on fb marketplace now and days.
Holy hell thats a extremely nice copy. You sending it in for grading Buyatari? I highly recommend, might be another 9.x copy (richard has the only 9.0 so far).
Congrats on being a owner of possibly the nicest nwc! Also, a huge thanks to you for publicly documenting the sale price. Most of the time these trade hands privately so you are either in-the-know or you don't! Props!
Since this thread has turned into an art discussion, I have to ask... has the original artwork for Gun.Smoke popped up before? Specifically this one
I always loved that game and its artwork and was just curious if anyone here owns it, if there's any cool stories about its acquisition, etc. I've seen quite a few Capcom game paintings posted on this board so I imagine someone must have this one too.

It has not turned up as far as I know but if you were so inclined you could contact the artist and ask him what he might charge you for a modern day recreation.
Grey >>>> gold. Gold looks like shit and isn't the legit since there is no serial number. Only a matter of time before grey prices are more than the fake, imposter gold nwc with a inkjet printer label cut out with safety scissors.

This cover was done by Frank Cirocco.
Thanks for the info! I know the original art would likely be far out of my price range, but since you brought up the possibility of a recreation from the artist I might have to look into that at some point!
It's a little disappointing that the original hasn't popped up, but it makes me a little excited to think it might still be out there somewhere waiting to be discovered.

Hand drawn artist proofs that are used for box art, advertising art, etc.

Always nice to read this stuff from the person who bought/sold instead of the NA rumor mill...
Congrats Adam and thanks for sharing..

As a seller I am happy with the deal, of course!

He is coming here.
I'm setting up a small private art viewing for him.
