Detective Pikachu
So I've just got done watching Detective Pikachu recently, gotta say for a (half) CG film, the special effects and the Pokemon were awesome. Down-right beautiful. Story... It's not too ho-hum, although it can be predictable. It plays it safe, but I can't really say that's "bad". It would definitely keep the kids and fans entertained. Especially with the exposition and the detective talk, some stuff may go by too fast, but it's not offensive or bad or anything.
Anyone else see it yet? Some select theaters were even giving out limited speicial Detective Pikachu Pokemon trading card packs.
Just go see it, it's fun.

I prolly wont see it or at least not right away but I'm glad that its pretty good, 7 Eleven is doing lots of detective P promo so I snagged a Psyduck straw thats better than cards right??
I might have to look into that, sounds pretty awesome to me. lol
No purchase required, just get yer butts over there and grab these up before they're gone. Ya goons.
And I was worried about the main human character when I saw him in the trailers, and also whether Ryan Reynolds would just be Deadpool the whole time. But I am very pleased to say that the human character is actually fantastically acted, really well rounded character, and Pikachu is really very different to Deadpool, it's a completely different character and performance from Reynolds in this film.
As most people are saying, the plot and some of the performances are a little hokey, but perfectly serviceable for a kid's film and I WAS actually surprised by some of the developments, so yeah fine overall for me there. But the main draws are the great performances and chemistry of the two leads, and generally just the amazing world they've built where you really feel like the Pokémon are real and they are just freaking EVERYWHERE, the whole time you're watching if you're like me you're just gonna be freaking out saying who's that Pokémon and what's he doing!
Oh, and hilarious as well, by the way. Literally proper laughed out loud 5+ times, which for me is A LOT for any movie! So, go see it, I'd say!
For someone who's never gotten into Pokemon, is it worth seeing at all? I know this is probably a bad reason but I sooooo want a good Zelda movie, so badly, I really want this to do well so that maybe Nintendo will consider opening up more IP for future films.
I think there is enough enjoyment and appeal to this film, the visuals, the performances, to make it watchable, even if you never played any Pokémon or anything before. If you totally HATE the things, probably best to avoid. And also, it IS very much a kid's film in terms of plot and simple bad guys, so don't expect too much there... But, who knows, probably the wonder of the world they've built will grow on you, and you'll be a converted Pokemaniac very soon!
Seeing it today with my nieces and friends! I saw the first Pokemon movie as a kid in theaters so I just gotta see the first live-action movie as well.
Not giving anything away, but I was surprised and pleased by a few VERY slight nods to the original first movie in this.
Could this be the beginning of the PCU? GOD I hope so!

Nah, I don’t hate Pokemon. I just didn’t give it a try until I bought Pokemon Red/Blue for my GB set. I think I was just to old and being that I didn’t play it way back in the 90s, it didn’t catch my attention. I’ve wanted to pick up a newer DS or 3DS version just to see if a more recent, modern iteration is more engaging, but I’ve just not done that/had a desire to drop the required cash for something I just might not be into.
But, I did find the original cartoon mildly entertaining and it came out when I was a late teeneager, so there’s hope.
I would see this if it were Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool as Pikachu. There has to be an R rated cut out there somewhere.
Hopefully we can kinda get our wish because...

Dude, you were right! Man, felt like 5 years old again on the edge of my seat in happiness, especially those references. I was like "Oh my gosh 1st movie" when I heard and saw them.
Haven't seen this yet but already want to purchase a cart of Red to match my otherwise complete box. I know these games have been faked into oblivion especially the GBA versions. Can anybody point me to an authentic cart only somewhere so I can complete mine?
Hit up the WTB thead here on the forums and make a thread to see if you can get someone to get you a copy. Most people here are collectors, so you shouldn't have too much problems getting a legit copy, or even at least get someone to take good pics or maybe even open the carts to check out the PCBs.
Am I the only one who thought this was already out since last year? People talked like it was already old news in some places.
x2!

Im its just the Mandela Effect!
I ended up enjoying the movie quite a bit, it was exactly as I expected it too be. Personally, I wouldn't be opposed to see more movies in this kind of style.
Kinda how i felt too. It was fun. I went with someone who was excited about it so I'm sure that made it better but was still enjoyable.

Glad to hear it!
It was really neat to see all these Pokemon in "real life". Now I want a Bulbasaur!
