Music Debate X: Babymetal

  • I gave them a five, first time hearing this. Not the best, but like someone else said, I'd gladly see them perform on someone else's dime.

I liked the song from the other Japanese band that was posted, instrumentals were great but the vocals...the guy sounded like a pussy to me, wish his voice matched the music style better.

While we're on the topic of Japanese bands, I quite like prambath, first alert, shotgun runners, husking bee. Anyone else here know them?
  • 2 for me. Never heard of them. Music is okay and I respect any artist trying to make it. Just not my cup of tea. Idk How they showed up as a nominee but I like these threads and listening to music I hadn’t heard before
  • I’d like to nominate Tupac Shakur for the next offering. I don’t listen to rap music a lot anymore but he has some good tunes with good beats

I don't think they were nominated. Babymetal was one Brock was keeping in his pocket to unleash later, most likely.

I'll be doing another "community choice" pick in a few weeks.

Babymetal was selected because I knew they'd garner a wide range of reactions.  Plus they're A) female, B) non-American, which helps shake some things up.

    Big Fat fucking ZERo
  • Again, Show Ya is a better female J-metal band than Babymetal:

am I the only one that finds that cringy AF

  • Final bump for the last couple days
  • Never heard of this group until this thread.

    Watched a video...

My suspicisions were correct. Three young girls fronting a metal band as presented/conceived by a music producer. From Wiki: "None of the three members were familiar with metal music before the inception of the band" ... not surprisingly...

This is kind of like the McDonald's of music. Genetically modified music made by music producers to sell records. N*Sync did it, BackStreet Boys (same guy/music producer) did it.... now some guy in Japan is doing it with young girls and metal.
  • My Chemical Romance in danger of losing their honors

Another interesting fact... nearly every artist has had their score go up since their poll closed.  So if I went back and recalculated everything at some point (which I am undecided on), there might be a number of changes.  I'm assuming because the only people going back and clicking on old threads are established fans who noticed them late.
  • 5 for me. I listen to a few of their songs. Not the best but not the worst metal band out there. And it amuses me to no end to watch their videos.
  • How did i miss this one?!

Just pretend the lyrics are about riding on your faithful steed to enter the battlefield to slay the dragon. Be brave and stand tall young warrior! I don't understand Japanese(and I have no interest in looking up lyric translations) so it may as well say that fun generic 90s power metal lyrics.

    6/10
  • As far as Jpop/Metal mashups go, I much prefer Maximum the Hormone, but Babymetal is a fun.
