Trump proposes tariff on video games

Well, games may be getting a bit more expensive. Or, at any rate hardware and games made in China. A lot of games are not made in China, so chances are software won't go much up in price if this comes to pass.

    oh well. probably not going to affect much video game wise atleast to the level we really feel it. I dont really think he directed it strictly at video games though lol. Nice title.

    Maybe the new ownershio can take a page from the book of atariage and ban any and all political discussion as it's nothing but dumpster fire in waiting whoever the party is in power by the year. The entire story is a bit on the misleading side like one thing is just being singled out. The actual list against China is pretty large and has a wide range to it.

    Canada already has a tape tax. Its called the conversion rate.

    A few months ago a bill in Pennsylvania was proposed to tax "violent video games".

    I believe this went nowhere since it was argued this would be a form of censure (video games are protected under the freedom of speech in the USA). As for Trump's tax, it sounds like it's just going to be the consoles

    Although if this goes into effect, it might hurt the sales of the PS5 or next Bone as well as upcoming new Switch systems.

    Title is a little misleading. The only video game relating things I could find that this tariff would impact are:





    "8526.92.10 ........ Radio remote control apparatus for video game consoles."



    "8543.70.87 ........ Electrical machines w/translation/dictionary; flatpanel displays except for heading 8528 (except 8528.51/61);infrared video game controller."



    "9504.50.00 ........ Video game consoles and machines, other than those of heading 9504.30."



    "9504.30.00 ........ Coin- or token-operated games for arcade, table or parlor (o/than bowling alley equipment) nesoi and parts and accessories thereof."





    I didn't see anything about games themselves. Just consoles and controllers. Unless they're counting games under "machines"

    Not to mention this tariff covers far more than just video game related things. Most of it is aimed at food.

    Fair point. When I first read on it there was talk about video games being taxed, but I think it's only the consoles, or maybe any games from China too? I believe Vita games are made in China, not sure about other systems?

    I don't think the article actually mentions games does it? It says video game industry and video game products. They definitely could've worded the article better.

    Meh, fake news, the Chinese are going to be the ones paying the tariffs anyways LOL. All joking aside it's still not going to stop me from buying a PS5 first day as I have owned every Playstation at some point. I prefer the Playstation to Xbox even though I own a One S, it's not a bad machine but I prefer the controller and the software on the Playstation. I'll tell you what though the One S is one hell of a 4k movie player.
