Billy Mitchell

Got Billy to sign my NES and Atari Donkey Kong cartridges, and got a couple bottles of his hot sauce.

  • Hasn't it been disclosed at this point that he cheated on his world records that were shown in King of Kong and has largely been disgraced?
  • well he has gone on twitch and live streamed himself achieving all of those scores in public since then, so I don't think there is any doubt about his skills. Were those original scores played on mame (or some other emulator) vs real hardware? I don't know? People at twin galaxies seemed to think so. But to me that is still a far cry from cheating. He got 2.9 million on Pac-man machine in the game room while I was there. (He's livestreamed perfect games before too) I think this guy cares too much about winning to be satisfied with anything less than really achieving the scores.

My (limited) understanding is that he lied or mislead regarding the hardware used, not necessarily that he outright cheated.

I believe he went back and got another similar or even better score (recently?).

Does the OP seem happy? Yea, go away.
  • Did he really defend his previously disputed score? I read his Donkey Kong score was something like 10 times that of second place and Barnstorming wasn't even physically possible.
  • Sorry, didn't mean to shit on your parade. Glad you enjoyed!
  • I've met Billy several times and he's a nice guy. I did not know he had played the games live to show he could achieve those scores. Good for him. @G-Type, do you know if those videos can be found on YouTube or anywhere else online?

Dude, are you talking about Todd Rogers? This is Billy Mitchell.

  • Thas dope. Billy Mitchell's the man.
  • I don't care if he cheated or not, Billy Mitchell is an awesome character and I love him for it. I got a thumbs up picture with him about a year ago, nice guy.

The barnstorming thing you mentioned was from Todd Rogers infamy.  not sure what this "10 times the second place" score your talking about is.
  • Rogers had a Centipede score that was so far ahead of everyone else's that it was suspect.
  • Met Billy a couple years ago at the Louisville Arcade Expo. He complimented my watch (it was shaped like a little arcade cab)
  • I met Billy at CGE many years ago. He was a really nice guy, and demonstrated an insane run in Donkey Kong for me (was pretty close to a WR score), teaching a ton of small tricks. I then met Todd Rogers a year later, and he was basically the exact opposite. So full of himself it was like a living meme.

Who had the impossible Dragster score?

  • I met Billy outside of an arcade in old town. He was walking an old lady across the street and then stopped to donate to the boy scout troop that was selling popcorn outside. He's such a nice guy. And then we all went out for ice cream and I got a bottle of Billy's secret sauce. *thumbsup*

    That name did sound familiar.

Billy was at MGC last year, seemed like a nice enough guy.

  • Yeah, Todd Rogers claimed a 5.51 Dragster score when the best TAS could achieve was 5.57.
  • Had the pleasure of meeting Billy Mitchell at a charity do once. He was surprisingly down to earth, and VERY funny.

    1. I can't tell if this meant to be satire mocking the other people going on about him being such a nice guy or not.

    2. I also can't tell if "Billy's Secret Sauce" is a euphemism for post-ice cream activities you engaged in or not.

    Truth!!!

  • Atari? Had no idea.
  • He is great, but definitely cheated and all of his high scores have been completely blown away by new blood after the game got notoriety in King of Kong.

It was more than that.  They went into the actual game code and using every possible shift on every frame before blowing that 5.57 is the lowest you could possible get, period.
