Odd GameCube Variant Covers and Discs - A Running List

So I'm currently working on completing my GameCube collection, including cover variants and disc variants. There is an excellent thread by NintendoTwizer with lists and visuals for various GameCube variants, but I couldn't find these more oddball releases on the list. I'm making this thread to help other complete GameCube collectors who'd like to know about these random variants I come across.

NintendoTwizer's thread: http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=67590

One of the first I came across was The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy with "Free Bonus DVD." Photo below from a past eBay listing provided by Hybrid. Also, I noticed my copy of FIFA 2005's disc had a USA-01 at the end. After posting about this in the Help Wanted forum, it seems this was likely to fix some glitch since the cases are identical. Also, my copy of Shrek 2 has a USA-02 at the end, and another copy has USA-01, which means that when the regular USA disc is added, there are at least 3 discs released for Shrek 2. It also turns out there's a version of Robotech: Battlecry that included a free Hint Book. In the past, I've only seen the Collector's Edition boxset and the Free Episode 1 DVD variants of Robotech discussed here. I've attached photos for reference, and if any other GameCube collectors come across weird variants not on NintendoTwizer's list, I will add them here. Or, if the mods would prefer, maybe we can update NintendoTwizer's thread with this information. Just trying to help fellow GameCube collectors.

Thanks guys!

  • I know that there is another pikmin 2 variant, one for Canada with a different cover.
  • I'd be curious to see that!
  • Added Robotech Battlecry (With Hint Book)

Added Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 (With Hint Book) as discovered by PerpetualChristopher here: http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=186763
  • I'm actually also working on the full cover art variant set, after finishing the main set. NintendoTwizer had sent me his master list and I've added to it as I've seen variants as well. Your more then welcome to use it if you'd like. Its a good easy reference for full set collecting and for variant collecting. That Gim Adventures is crazy I've never heard of that variant.

  • Might go through my collection and see if I have any other alternate covers, Scerena4's list looks very complete to me on first glance.

Anyone else know about this apparently really valuable variant? I first heard about it a few months ago on Racketboy, and was amazed that I had missed it back in the day, as I was a huge Sonic fan. I've had a saved search result for months and this is the first copy to turn up in that time.
  • Thanks Scerena4, I will definitely check this list as I try to complete mine. Let's Sing, I have heard of that Sonic 2 pack. There's also a Super Monkey Ball 2 Pack that's pretty tough to find.
  • Just added Spongebob Squarepants: The Movie (Cheat Codes Included) thanks to the list provided by Scerena4.
  • Spreadsheet seems to be missing a lot.

I still have a picture of a sealed Target exclusive Metroid Prime variant I used to have (included coupons). I believe it's the variant my former roommate still has.

US Target locations also had English/French versions of stuff other retailers had with only the English label. I know Zelda Collector's Edition was never straight-up sold in stores but I've definitely seen both variants when it was still current.

Pretty sure Double Dash also has a "Best Seller" badge on later copies.

I might have a variant of Donkey Konga that mentions Donkey Konga 2 but I might be mixing that up with a variant bingo box. I’ll check.
  • Yup, the Target Metroid Prime is on the spreadsheet. It's to the right of the title along with the K-Mart versions. Curious to hear about the rest tho!

I'd like to mention the list provided was originally done by NintendoTwizer and I've made modifications to it as I find new stuff. Would be curious to know what’s missing. It's pretty complete to my knowledge. Obviously if there’s stuff missing I'd love to know about it, as I'm working on full variant set myelf. I didn’t include any of the Canadian variants, as there are quite a few with badges/graphics on the front with French/English. Canada even got a slip cover for Meet the Robinsons (this one I do have as its pretty unique). The robotech with the hint book I've got on my list but I'm 99% sure it was a Canadian only release, as 90% of the ones I see pop up are from Canada, but I've got it on my list because i have no way to confirm or deny that. I'd love to see the double dash, non players choice, with just the best seller badge.
