Longest period you've kept buying but not playing?
I've been quite busy with work and family -- so much so, that it's hard to justify spending time playing games. However, in the random free moments while sitting on the toilet at work and cranking out a stubborn turd, or pretending to be listening to my four year old tell me a nonsensical and poorly paced story about his day at preschool, I find moments on my phone to snag a deal or two on ebay.
So, I just realized that over the past 10-12 months I've bought probably 100 (mostly under $20) games, but I haven't played a single one.
I found myself with an evening off, so I downloaded an NES emulator, connected a controller, and started playing ROMs of some of the lesser-known NES titles I've been purchasing.
Holy shit have these games aged poorly. it actually turned me off so much that I stopped buying games the past couple weeks. The idea of playing the games was so much more fun than actually playing them. There really is only like 70 games on the system worth your time, if you value your time at all.

I'd be curious which games didn't age well? Sometimes the older consoles are my only way to scratch that gaming itch compared to new gen!
Loving horizon zero dawn tho
EDIT: but 2 weeks ago i was able to go to an all you can play all day Arcade with my son for 4 hours. So even though i didnt buy them i still played. does that count? lol
I was directed to work from home last week while the office is being remodeled, so I have been able to catch up on my backlog which is nice. There was quite a gap in there, about a month or so, where I bought a ton of games and just didn't play them. Glad to be back playing though!
Get back to work! Playing video games on the company dime? I would never do that!
People buy video games to play?
Damn, beat me to it.

I'm glad I don't have this perspective. I've enjoyed a lot of real stinkers on the NES. I don't have near enough time to play my thousands and thousands of games, but every game has it's unique contribution to history, or cool story, or interesting gameplay choices. I've played through Secret Scout, Challenge of the Dragon, Operation Secret Storm and etc. Games like Days of Thunder on Gameboy wow'd me, because it uses the gameboy hardware in a way I've never seen. (Seriously, check it out!)
Anyway, I'm hella busy playing Randomizers these days, so my random gaming is down, but I enjoy every video game I play, even if it's kinda crappy.
Over 4 years.
What do you do for fun?

To each their own. I can see the appeal. I have a soft spot for B movies. But for an interactive experience that I am investing in, I just don't see the point in playing something for the schlock factor. It's like going to a mediocre burger place because you hear they have weird buns.
Like your mom.
I decided that I am going to collect about half of the library: I'm excluding all of the sports titles, I am also only collecting the best version of a lot of series games: for example: Alien Vs Predator: the last of his clan, Franken 2, Boxxle 2. Something like that. I'm also trying to exclude a lot of the generic platfomers such as Adventure Island. Anyway, I got my list of 250 out of the 507 games available.
