How do you store Gameboy games?

I like to keep my Gameboy games in plastic cases but is there a box or something you can nicely stack them in? I see Gameboy bags and such but I’m looking for something more orderly and organized.  Any tips would be appreciated!

  • I put mine in 9 slot sports card sleeves in a zip up binder.
  • Personally, they are either in a display case or just in a drawer. I don't really have a whole lot of gameboy games.
  • Look at various Zippo lighter cases. They're a near perfect fit for Gameboy carts.
  • I store mine in their original cardboard boxes along with their manuals and other inserts, with each box in a protective plastic case, as god intended.
  • You can use display cases for nail polish, as featured in an episode of My Life in Gaming. Looks great!
  • I have a 1:1 ratio of games/official dust cases, other than that they just are in stacks like poker chips

Yeah I play my games. At the core I am a gamer, and I collect games.

    Again, as god intended.

  • My Gameboy storage could use a little organising as well.

  • I'm working on a complete set of carts and have about 500 in total, counting dupes, those of lesser than preferred condition and GBC carts.

I've found that Amazon offers a bunch of boxes that are rather long and wide but only 3-4 inches tall. These are often used for larger books or cloths.

Anyway, I keep all of my divided sets in some form of these boxes. My main set is in a bib box that I'd guess is 18"x24"x4". I take strips of cardboard and use them to divide the rows. I also have smaller boxes that are 4" high for my stuff for trade, my GBC games and the mountain of plastic dust covers I've accumulated but don't use because they use up to much space for the main collection.

Anyway, they are a cheap solution if you use Amazon Prime.

How long did it take you to get 500? How many are actually OG gameboy? It would be so much easier for me to go loose, I may end up going loose on some carts, but the fact is that nearly 100 gameboy carts are sports games, which I don't have any interest in. My set will be about 250 boxes, which will be a feat in and of itself.

  • In hard NES cases (in a box)

Super Mario Land gets a spot on the shelf. Standing up, facing out.

God didn't intend for those boxes to be opened over and over again with your greasy fingers every time you wanted to play a game.

If he did, he would have made them out of something stronger than cardboard. Or put little cardboard protective hinges over the flaps. Yup, tiny cardboard hinges for protection. He would have planned them much better if they were intended to be opened constantly.

Like a way to get the top flap out without crushing it, or so the side flaps don't get caught/flimsy over time.

Your boxes are going to get more worn out and flimsy over time, so you're just literally wearing them out by playing games... unless you don't actually play them. I feel bad for them. Might as well stack them on top of eachother.

    Box elitist, haha.

Any box I have with an actual game I want to play, the game is removed. Why would I touch that thing (the box)? It's a miracle it's survived this long, I'm not tempting fate on a little cardboard flap. Opening it once to get the game out is enough.

I mean... surely any game of worth you're not opening the box up and bending all the crispy minty fresh cardboard????

    This, exactly this.

    Also... This:

    Yo flaps gunna die.

It's an absolute MIRACLE they've lasted this long and are intact, and if they were crispy like that EVO, it's not so much now, haha. You can almost hear the cardboard dying.

I mean, you want the box BECAUSE it's in good shape, but then open them each time to play a game.

    Oooooooh... that's nice.

I suppose I should clarify to the OP.

When I first read the thread I specifically thought gameboy games that you needed to store because they're crappy and you don't really play them, blah, blah, blah, blah...

In which case I answered as I have some of the games I don't really play packed away housed safely in a hard NES clear shell.

But for the Gameboy games (more Advance than anything, a few OG) that I want to play I keep them out as such:

With their systems and carrying cases, ready to be played, like god intended.

And the Greatest Gameboy game of all time, as stated:

  • If I kept the box on the shelf and just used an everdrive I may as well... Just collect boxes.

I collect the whole experience. I go to the shelf, pick a game, take it out, pop it in. Along the way maybe I read the back of the box or look at the cover art. Maybe I even read the manual.

They may as well be posters if I never pick them up.

Always loved it too, too bad I can't build anything. I would buy these so fast if someone else made them.

What sane reason do you have for having 24 copies of castle quest?

Not to hijack the thread, but he's also got a proto of Triumph (the unreleased US version). Makes me green with envy.

  • I need a better way to keep mine organized. Right now they're just all crammed into a Game Boy Advance bag, which worked fine during that system's lifespan, but now it's almost bursting at the seams.

I just got reunited with the Pokemon Edition GBC from my childhood, so maybe it's a good time to change this...

It took me a couple years and I still have a ways sense I’m going for all variants too.
