I have a Tengen Ms Pac-Man that has "Misty" written in cursive on a corner of the label. I would erase it with alcohol, but whoever Misty is, she had such damn good penmanship that I decided to leave it.
That's the main reason I bought it. Aside from the excessive signing everything is in really nice condition.
Were these copies comparable in price to other games without signatures where ever you bought them, or were they sold somewhat cheaper due to the excessive writing?

I paid $50. Which is either completely fair given the condition, or I'll get a $50-ish bump in value if I can clean it up. Considering how funny the game looks as-is I'm happy with what I paid.
In the 80's it was extremely common to mark your carts with your name. It was also common to trash the boxes, lose the slip covers, and eventually throw away the manuals after they were destroyed from floating around on your bedroom floor for months on end. Very few children or Parents for that matter thought "Hey I should keep these sealed, not play them, and protect them so some collector in 2019 can show them off!" The fact is kids carried their carts around everywhere to friends and family, and we all know how forgetful children can be, labeling your shit ensured when found it would return to you, or parents could identify what was yours when they were picking up after an NES Pizza & Soda Slumber party. Though hitting even the boxes is a bit extreme, kind of makes you wonder who this kid was associating with
I would dry erase the label, and alcohol the plastic.
It's scary, there was one time I tried to get marker off a copy of one of those holo-foil Sega Genesis Vectroman boxes with a dry erase, and it took the color right off!

Maybe they treated them that way. Unless they grew up low income. Then every game was special, and even the boxes were saved as part of the experience.
The stuff people use to remove sharpie seems overly aggressive. Just write over the existing marker a few times with dry erase marker, and wipe it off. The natural solvent in the dry erase marker will dissolve the old sharpie. It may not look perfect, but going over it a few times and then using some rubbing alcohol as a last resort will be gentler.
I'm going to have to test a few things I think. My only concern is the age of the writing and the gold paint. Zelda gold isn't very stable.
I can personally vouche for it's effectivness. As long as there is some laminate present on the box/label and you write within the original lines it works suprisingly well. Still a faint shadow, but effective.
the scratched on names are worse... my mom put my name on all my games. all 75 games... it took me awhile to remove them all with out a trace or damage. this reminds me of the time i went to a garage sale and this nerdy kid was selling his n64 games. they were mint but they had his name type of game whether it was 2d or 3d how big the game rom was weather it required a memory card on not all over the dang game cart! but his games otherwise were mint. it took me a day per each cart to remove the dang sharpie ink...
the best way ive found that doesnt damage the plastic is a cut off tooth brush bristles 100% alcohol and Colgate tooth paste.
I went game shopping this week in Minneapolis. Swung by a little vintage toy and retro game shop (Heroic Goods & Games) which had a very healthy selection of complete NES titles in very good condition except for a single flaw they all shared. Some dude had signed and numbered his entire collection in sharpie. He signed labels and boxes and frequently signed the front and back of each. Legend of Zelda, SMB, Gyromite, Castlevania... every game I pulled out was defaced with the name: Jon Delano. Game after game. Jon Delano, Jon Delano, Jon Delano. It was... honestly hilarious. So I bought Zelda 2.
I also filmed the trip. I don't want to like embed the video though.
That's not as bad as having someone bring in 30+ NES games and everyone having a big swastika written on them with sharpie. Took hours to get them off.

Oh god no. That's horrible. o.O
I think if I had a shop I wouldn't even accept those games, unless they were something really desireable. Otherwise those people can fuck off.

They were all pretty good titles otherwise we wouldn't have bothered. He needed the money and juding by the looks of him, most likely for drugs.
You should be able to get the sharpie off the Zelda II label pretty easily using a dry erase marker. Had a few come in like that and it works. Good luck getting it off the back though. It miiiight be possible to remove some off the box as it's semi glossy but it might also damage it a little at the same time. Might be better just leaving it on as a conversation piece.

"Get them off?" I didn't know you could use store credit for a handjob.
I heard tale there is a copy of Fire n' Ice from FieryReigns collection floating about.
Funny story. Fiery may be banned from here (and every other barely surviving videogame forum) but his trolling lives on in the comments of small time gaming YouTube channels. Every now and then a friend will share an abusive screenshot from FieryReign.

Wow, the guy overdone himself, on the box, the back of the cart and right on the effin label, LOL!
It's nice seeing you posting Daria!
Thanks Guill!
I lurk from time to time. I just don't have the free time to comment like I used to.
He's just trying to establish a pedigree. The Jon Delano Collection is one to keep an eye on.
haha thanks for this
Clean copy too!

I might have to start doing this to all my games now lol
Forge the great Jon Delano's signature?! That'd be fraudulent.
Lol, I am the great Jon Yukano!

Why did you buy it you wasted money that could've been spent on something that hadn't been fucked with
I thought it was funny.
