I don't want to be in this timeline

  • Is anyone else groaning that every single Wata certified item has "The Carolina Collection" on it? It's kinda gross, IMO.
  • Maybe would be cool if you live in Carolina? I for one wouldn't want any "collection" name on any of my stuff
  • I didn't get any sort of email

    Seriously.

Yeah, things aren't the way they used to be. Cowboy up, we still have a forum.

  • I don't see what the big deal is... if you don't like an email newsletter just unsubscribe. Why all the drama

They are pushing hard to make games the same as comics. Take that nonsense back to comics.

I would think that is something positive, if I was actively part of the collecting community still I would be stoked that people outside of here are starting to see the relevance of the video game collecting hobby and it can hold it's own in that regard.

  • Its not a big deal guys. Cool off will ya.
  • But of a weird thread. Came here expecting drastic life traumas. Feeling disappointed.
  • Threads like this don't really add anything to the community.we've all had our fun in the death on na thread and the banner ads thread. So do we really need an email complaint thread too?

Only here to play in the contests and occasionally trade/sell/buy some cool things. Long as the sites up and running for those do we need it for anything else?
  • a bit too dramatic folks. I'll take this over 90% of the other emails I receive, even though I have no interest in GoCollect.
  • This is what happens when you smash Sega Saturns or Panasonic 3DOs with a bat.

I hate this crap. Dain is done, he's out of collecting. He's essentially no one special now. So, who cares that a copy of Wrecking Crew came from his collection? It's no longer in the "Carolina Collection" because it got freaking sold off. Who gives a half a shit that it spent time on his shelf? It's beyond arrogant to think anyone will care about Dain in 2 years. To be realistic, he hasn't been relevant to collecting Nintendo for the last few years, beyond paying the hosting bill at NintendoAge. I haven't seen him post or meaningfully contribute in ages.

But now, WATA and co are pretending we should all give a fuck that it came from some has-been's collection. We shouldn't. I certainly don't.

P.S., if anyone wants to spend 20% over VGPC, let me know, and I'll sell you something from the "Utah Collection."
  • ^ Someone piss in your cheerios?

I see nothing wrong with what Dain did, and I'll always respect him.

People are venomous with opinion when it comes to change.

Hey bud, fyi this looks to be fixed now. Try again and it should work!

If anyone else was having trouble updating their preferences, go to the link in the email again and try it now.

We do. Something new happened, it's being discussed.

That being said, I wish he subtitled it so the title wasn't as ambigious.
  • I just noticed the "Indiana Collection" and the "Carolina Collection" WATA games actually say that on the label.

I'm trying to find a polite way to say that's a horrible idea and has changed my opinion on WATA a lot. I liked the random trivia tidbits that would end up on there, but I don't care for this forced provenance crap.
  • Out of the 14 million six hundred and five other timelines available to us, I'll take this one. The rest either end in meteor showers, cosmic upheaval or pure dookie.

Would it revert your opinion if it was their idea alone to introduce pedigrees? (Something that should probably be addressed)

I think the negativity comes from it being viewed as a cash grab, but I'm not sure if WATA directly has a monetary stake in the sucess of pedigrees. They do have an incentive to differentiate themselves from VGA though.

Same here.  Any additional love for the hobby and this community is welcomed imo.  I know I’ve been a registered “member” for a short time, but I “lurked” for years....any chance to keep the community vibrant and growing is a positive.  All of you folks are awesome!

Now, as far as receiving an “unsolicited” email....just simply opt out if you don’t want it.

Wow, really?  That's sad WATA would do that

  • Giving the newsletter more character or having it resemble the old NA ezine would go a long way to getting me to not immediately delete it or unsubscribe. Make it 'purty dagnabit!

No, it would re-enforce it actually.   Also, it's not a "pedigree", it's a nickname.   I'm sure zero effort went into comparing it to other large collections in the states of North and/or South Carolina.

It's also incredibly pretentious to assume all the big collectors are members here.   Do you realize how many of these guys are hermits that don't go swinging their e-dicks around?

Like I said in the other thread (or was it this one?) I can almost justify Dain's collection being named, but other ones just seem a little too far drawn out. If it catches then people will congratulate WATA on the idea, if it doesn't then you can't really blame them for trying to separate themselves from the crowd.

I agree that there's a misconception about all the big collectors being public and on NA. From just the little that I've seen, there's way more cooler stuff in the shadows than there are in public.

Ya I didnt notice either til someone pointed it out. I honestly think its stupid. Who is really going to know what "The carolina collection" even means? Who would even care ? I think wanting to call it that is whatever, but to put it on the label is just goofy.

And in that case, who even determines what "collections" deserve a special name? Why ? Can I send in my stuff and just say it came from "The Canada Collection" and they will slap it on the label ? It literally means nothing. I personally think it takes away from it. I think WATA is doing enough things right that most people seem to agree they are the better company, but this just feels like a step backwards.
