Some people can't do that. My point is that some people can't separate the 2. I'd always go on the side of caution and just not allow it to keep stability to the forums. There's nothing that says the extreme divisions in the real world won't extend to the virtual. It only takes a bad apple or two to ruin things. It would only work if you had a locked sub forum that you had to request access to. That way you are chosing to enter the political side of things instead of finding them randomly in the open.
This is "Everything Else". As long as people aren't engaging in hate speech or harassment, pretty much anything goes as a topic of conversation.
If that isn't your thing, you aren't forced to read or participate in threads with topics that bother you.
Apparently political threads aren't allowed
Since when?
To the guy that copied my name (flattered BTW) please read the FAQ. I know I dont need to tell nathan that.
I mean, maybe there is an "unofficial understanding" to discuss those topics LESS than the old days, after Dain's "let's be nice" thread from awhile back.
But to clarify it for HerrWunderbar (and others) -- the words "politic" and "religion" don't appear anywhere in the forum rules that I recall seeing.
Individual topics get shut down when people behave badly, but that is separate from having an embargo on these types of discussions at all.

I take back the “technically” from my inital post. In the end, its up to us.

Yeah, individual topics are generally at the discretion of the mods that control a particular area -- though members are free to complain and run it up the chain to get a topic un-deleted when a mod may have made a mistake.
But as long as people stay mostly polite, and there is a genuine intent for conversation aside from generating a troll-topic, it should generally be "anything goes" in terms of Everything Else content.
Thanks for giving me a heads up on the rules arch!
Ha!
Seemed like a point worth clarifying for the masses, since a bunch of people seem to boil it down to something it isn't. (i.e. the idea that these topics are forbidden)
College is overrated. Too many people with degrees so they can be line cooks and waitresses. If you are gonna go to college/university, it better be with a focus or purpose. Otherwise you are only wasting a ton of time and money on degrees you will not use.
Yup. And I work with a suprising number of ex-art students at my current job (government contractor with lots of CAD work). All of them have relatively negative attitudes towards their schooling and consider it a waste of time and money.
Personally, looking back, I wish I had gone to trade school and saved the art for my free time.
Do you ever post about games? You do realize this isnt reddit right?
I am proud that this is the first comment.
I read this thinking why the fuck is someone with so little posts starting a conversation about this on a video game website.
I was was hoping this tied back to some super awesome story about how video game collecting paid for their $100K university, or how video games got them through the gruelling studies, narrowly avoiding suicide, but nope, just some unrelated content that should have been posted to Facebook or msn.com or literally anywhere else.

I don't mind these type of posts. This could be a fun topic with people sharing their disagreements and stories as long people don't take dissenting opinions personally.
And personally I would rather post my opinion here than Facebook. I hate Facebook.

Gubment backed loans. That is all. Carry on.
Along with private loans that cannot be readily discharged in bankruptcy.

Any art students posting?
