I hang onto old coins when I find them, but I don't go out of my way.
I recently met someone who was super into pencils. I thought it was silly at first, but the more I listen to him, the more I want to start collecting pencils.
I used to collect magic the gathering but stopped and sold out about a decade ago. Boy, was that a mistake! Plays at of dual lands, played of all the important vintage and legacy cards, foil wastelands, tarmogoyfs, mishras workshop, etc. I could buy a house damn near cash money now with what I had in my peak collecting days.
Feel like we’ve done this conversation before. I collect Crt TVs, vcrs, ren and Stimpy memorabilia, monster/kung fu/ samurai/ninja films on vhs. And vintage music gear. None actively tho...well maybe music gear..
I hang onto old coins when I find them, but I don't go out of my way.

What type of “old”coins do you collect ?I mainly collect ancient coins ..

I was buying Yeezy's for a short period, but I got salty after the last release and haven't bought another pair since. Just video games for me!
David Robinson's are my favorite sneakers. Jordan, Kanye's, converse, they're all over rated. When you get DEEP in the rabbit hole you find the Admiral's command force w the pumps. Easily the most iconic shoes of the late 80s early 90s for me. Puts the 1s and 2s to shame.
Oh yeah, I collect sneakers. They're meant to be worn

This topic come up fairly often. Vans shoes here. About 700ish pairs now.
How would one display 700 pairs of shoes?
Get 350 friends to come over?
Yeah I guess with 350 friends you could have each friend wear one shoe on each hand and foot. Might be a little less silly if we have 700 friends with just one shoe on each foot, or maybe 1400 friends each showcasing a single shoe.

I used to collect LEGOs, CDs, comic books, different versions of Monopoly, and TMNT action figures (the ones from the late 80s, early 90s). Unfortunately most of that stuff is now gone (mostly not by my own doing).
LEGOs I always loved and still have a bunch of my sets from childhood but nearly every set I own is missing pieces, and most of the pieces are thrown together in a giant bin. I was going to get back into collecting LEGOs because I still love them, but after seeing the absolutely insane prices online I turned away. Half of the sets I had growing up are missing though. My parents swear they didn't sell them, but I know exactly which ones I had and they are not anywhere to be found. Oh well.
CDs I still buy for like my top 5 favorite artists, otherwise I listen to my music digitally. I had 100s of CDs, but I just lost attachment and interest in them and mass sold them for pennies.
Comic books I collected about 10 years ago when looking for a new hobby, and really got into it. Nothing super expensive, but I always loved the comic book form. I always intended to read everything I bought but of course I just ended up accumulating a bunch of comics I'll likely never read and ended up selling most of them a few years ago. As of now I just got back into comics a few months ago but am only buying the ones I will definitely read so I hardly qualify as a collector.
Monopoly is my favorite board game, and I had many family game nights with my family growing up playing the game, and for a while I would buy every version of Monopoly that came out. It started with just my favorite versions, like World of Warcraft, Nintendo, and Looney Toons, but as the selection of Monopoly versions grew in stores, my interest waned and there was just an overwhelming amount of them. Of course I later realized I was buying them just to have them and the majority of them were never even opened, so I kept my Nintendo and World of Warcraft versions and the original and sold the rest.
My TMNT action figure collection is nearly completely gone. I have maybe 3 or 4 still, but my parents sold them all at garage sales when I was younger. I had nearly the entire set, only missing maybe 2 or 3 total. This is one collection I would've loved to still have today. I thought about rebuying them to have them but then decided against it as they would end up just sitting in a box in my room or the attic and it would be money wasted. Had I still had them all from childhood I undoubtedly would've kept them and gotten the last few I needed for a complete collection. This was my first collection and probably the one I would've kept above all, except video games. RIP my TMNT collection.
Right now I only collect video games, though I think I barely fit the bill of collector anymore. I lost a lot of interest in the hobby as my collection grew, I started running out of space in my closet-sized game room, plus my wife had a kid and had to allocate expenses elsewhere, which meant less money for games. The hobby lost much of its enjoyment once I started seeing thrift shops skyrocket their prices because everywhere knew the value of the games now. And people jack up prices of every game, and lie about their condition online, blah blah blah, anyway it's gotten old, and I don't have the patience or the money to keep investing in it. I never did it for financial investment, always because I love games, always a gamer first, collector second, but I mostly only buy new games now and just replay what old games I already own.
So I guess at the end of the day I collect nothing. But that's fine. I wish there was something that really grabbed me, something relatively inexpensive but something interactive that won't just sit on my shelf, something I could be passionate about. I'm still passionate about gaming but limited time means I'll never play all the games I want to play. Anyway, there are my 2 cents.

Think it's hard finding an NES box in good shape? Try finding a 1946 bubble light box that isn't shredded.

I blame those Lost Art of Podcast guys.

I hit 22 Zappa releases this weekend...It's taking forever man.
But do you have Lumpy Gravy?
I also collect tapes/vinyl, toys/boardgames, and guitars with random music gear. Not usually all at once it's all in cycles.
Awesome! Too bad we didn't take it all the way
I would have to check my stick stash too. I have Beezer goalie sticks, but I think I only have his Flyers and Devils ones.
