Hey bud, fyi this looks to be fixed now. Try again and it should work!
If anyone else was having trouble updating their preferences, go to the link in the email again and try it now.
I just noticed the "Indiana Collection" and the "Carolina Collection" WATA games actually say that on the label.
I'm trying to find a polite way to say that's a horrible idea and has changed my opinion on WATA a lot. I liked the random trivia tidbits that would end up on there, but I don't care for this forced provenance crap.
Ya I didnt notice either til someone pointed it out. I honestly think its stupid. Who is really going to know what "The carolina collection" even means? Who would even care ? I think wanting to call it that is whatever, but to put it on the label is just goofy.
And in that case, who even determines what "collections" deserve a special name? Why ? Can I send in my stuff and just say it came from "The Canada Collection" and they will slap it on the label ? It literally means nothing. I personally think it takes away from it. I think WATA is doing enough things right that most people seem to agree they are the better company, but this just feels like a step backwards.
As long as you don't call it The Toronto Collection you and I will not come to blows.
No, it would re-enforce it actually. Also, it's not a "pedigree", it's a nickname. I'm sure zero effort went into comparing it to other large collections in the states of North and/or South Carolina.
It's also incredibly pretentious to assume all the big collectors are members here. Do you realize how many of these guys are hermits that don't go swinging their e-dicks around?
Like I said in the other thread (or was it this one?) I can almost justify Dain's collection being named, but other ones just seem a little too far drawn out. If it catches then people will congratulate WATA on the idea, if it doesn't then you can't really blame them for trying to separate themselves from the crowd.
I agree that there's a misconception about all the big collectors being public and on NA. From just the little that I've seen, there's way more cooler stuff in the shadows than there are in public.
I won't be one of them.
If you want to name it, then name it something like "The Dain A. Collection" which would be an accurate description of it, then if his name actually supplies more buying power then good for them. But good luck finding somebody that knows who he is outside of NA.
All I know is if you try to name something the Ohio Collection, you'll have at least a legit five way brawl.

Agreed, I hate the name "Carolina" since it provides very little context of the (little) historic significance the physical collection has.
Should every green label F-Zero on the planet be part of the "Dovaleh Warehouse Find"?
Then again, we have to remember that we already have a history with big finds too. Remember the "JOLLERANCHER Garage Sale"? I think it all started there on Summer 2006 (or '05?) (edit: also, I wish I was there back then...I didn't start seriously collecting until the end of 2010, early 2011)

Would it revert your opinion if it was their idea alone to introduce pedigrees? (Something that should probably be addressed)
I think the negativity comes from it being viewed as a cash grab, but I'm not sure if WATA directly has a monetary stake in the sucess of pedigrees. They do have an incentive to differentiate themselves from VGA though.
While I’m not really upset or taking sides on this issue, I think the negativity comes from the perception of a “hostile takeover” taking place within the hobby. Within a short period of time, Dain collection was sold, Nintendoage is going through a re-org, and now Wata has amended its guidelines to coincide with the grading of the recently sold collection. Again, I’m not being negative, I’m realistically pointing out what I think people are feeling but just can’t pinpoint why they feel this way..
And I can see the potential for people to view Wata’s move as a cash grab as the collection has thousands of items in need of be grading, this would be a very large account for ongoing business.. anyone who was in Wata’s position would make a reasonable accomodation like in order to secure a large swath of business.
I think the question of whether Wata would have started labeling pedigrees on their own if the Carolina Collection never crossed their path is null. They would never be put into a position where they would have to make such a decision unless a collection of this magnitude came their way. I do think that the decision to start labeling collections/pedigrees is directly related to securing the orders from the Carolina Collection, but seriously can you blame them.. at the end of the day Wata is running a business not a non-profit foundation.
I think if some other large collection initiated the labeling with Wata that wasn’t associated with the currently ongoing negative feelings that people have with gocollect, this would be so much less of an issue

I'm selling my 1 of a kind copy of SMB2. What makes it 1 of a kind you ask? We'll let me tell you, it's a part of the exclusive and elusive Maryland collection. No not just any Maryland collection, The Maryland Collection. And it can be yours for the low, low, LOW! price of just 99.99 (plus shipping and handling).
Neither will make me spend a dollar more..... but I don't see anything wrong with it. It's all marketing .... nothing more.
And you don't see anything wrong with this marketing from a service that's supposed to offer a graded collectable on an unbiased scale? IMO it lessens any authenticity their 'grades' carry.

I don’t care enough for it to matter much to me. I have been collecting long enough to make informed an buying decisions. I personally don’t need a grading company to validate the quality of a product I’m buying.

See, only a collector with the lesser Maryland collection would grab a can of old bay. The greater Maryland collector knows that J.O. spice is superior to old bay.

Haha sorry one player only put your quarter over on the side somewhere
Hey I already have 3 pieces from 2 of the lesser Maryland collections on here, therefore mine is CLEARLY THE Maryland collection.
That Groudon is a rare bitch! Also my phone tries to change that Pokémon into Groupon lol.
Also i called dibs. Technically since I’m a cheeseball and cheesed first I’m the ultimate cheeseburger I like how you make valid point for a duel and then go coat tail off my sillyness! Furthermore bringing this out of the Carolina collection thread for this silly thread triple foul go pass GO and DO NOT collect 200 dollars!

whoa, whoa now. What about those zomg rare Mega Man games of mine you presumably still have? Get those slabbed, definitely part of the Maryland collection!
I already called dibs on Maryland collection a long time ago

I'll even cut you in on a nice 1.337% of the profits! It would be more if you didn't ditch us for the sweet sunny west coast sunshine

^ honestly I say we all step aside and let JoneBone take it. I'd kill to spend a few hours going through his hoard
Okay so if some of his awesome items came from another Maryland collection that said other Maryland collection gets plus 2 right

P.s uno

I shall meet you on the field at the Renaissance Festival. I'd say look for the guy with the life sized Hylian Shield and Master Sword..but lets be honest that could be just about anyone there.
