  • Any Sega console. I picked up a Saturn and Dreamcast a few months ago, but don't have a Genesis, which was much more common.

    A SNES

    An NES

Any first party Nintendo games for the 64.

    Any PS1 RPG.

Any game in the Legend of Zelda series.

I'll go sit in the corner now.

    This defies belief!

I'll try to explain this. I was born in '89 and didn't have an interest in console gaming until I played Goldeneye on my cousins' N64. Before that I was a PC/Mac gamer (my dad got one of each as surplus from the company he worked for). Since I enjoyed playing Goldeneye so much, my parents decided that I should get a console. I was given a choice between an N64 or a PlayStation. Saturn was out of the question.  I ended up going with the PS1 because there were more racing games available (I was, and still am really into cars) and more importantly, they were $40 instead of $60. So I became a Sony guy, which I still am (I've owned every Sony console that wasn't a portable). So you're probably wondering, why the hell is a Sony guy on NintendoAge? Well, the answer is I'm trying to discover all the games I missed out on as a kid and broaden my horizons.

No first-party N64 games. Get Mario Kart 64 already!

    F-Zero X

    Super Mario 64

Super Smash Bros. (a bit too expensive now)

I don't think there's any shame here. We all have to start somewhere, and some people's starting point and interests are just different, and a lot of that has to do with what our parents provide us with. I didn't own a PS1 RPG until Final Fantasy 7, 8, SaGa Frontier, and Vagrant Story were all literally given to me. They're mostly overrated games that bring nothing to the table other than "wow, look at those graphics!" tacked onto the same boring RPG mechanics of the SNES era. SaGa Frontier is a goddamn gem, though.

As for me, I don't know that anything qualifies as having eluded me, so much as most of the easy stuff I don't have, I never needed/wanted. My curse is only wanting things that end up rare and expensive... Except for Dreamcast video cables. Those bad boys just won't pop up locally and I don't feel like searching for them on ebay.

    I don't own any ps1 RPGs either
  • gamecube or nintendo ds. never really interested in either system, but have begun to ponder the idea. probably going to buy a gamecube just for the gameboy player alone. Any fun gamecube games are a bonus.

    as for games

    yoshis island

    mario kart snes

    zelda nes

    contra games

    metroid games

bomberman on any system, first played it on a tg-16,love the series. still dont own any of the games
  • Rad Gravity..been collecting for about 8 yrs and that one still eludes me..saw a copy the other night, but too bad a shape for the 9.99 price tag.
  • Athena

for what ever reason the copy of Athena I have has a crystal mines PCB with an EPROM on it and I always forget about it...

so when I see it out and about I think, oh I have that game I should give it a shot, stick it in and go, oh....yea

to add to it though my blue crystal mines cart doesn't work so I guess I could play that still atleast....if that's any sort of consolation
  • Proto board or was it rewired? Ever check to see if Crystal Mines has a different checksum than the final version?
  • I am having a really hard time with this one to be honest, I had to put some thought into it but it came down to something personal.....since I am a big RPG/Adventure guy it is really odd that I have never played/owned Crystalis.
  • - DuckTales with FRA code on front (often seems to have a faded looking label and or scratches)

    - Kirby's Adventure with HOL code on front (small label issues and or mostly overpriced)

    - Little Nemo The Dream Master (weird shinier label that often makes it look fake)

    - The Legend of Zelda gold version (paint chipping issues and scratches etc)

    - DuckTales 2 with HOL code on front (often faded looking label and or overpriced)

not rewired, its on a production PCB, copyright 1989 color dreams inc. made in taiwan blah blah blah.

its soldered directly to the pcb as well not socketed, i may be lucky but not generally that lucky for it to be a prototype

it a ceramic eprom with a red sticker over the window writing on top reads:

    SB8930

    NMC27C256Q

    20

the other side is a toshiba mask rom

i've researched it in the past and i guess color dreams to used eproms from time to time in production carts.

i can post pics if you want but i dont want to thread crap this with this topic so point me into another area where i should post em up if you want
  • I'm in no hurry to find it, but I've never found Dance Aerobics. I keep waiting to find one in the wild for a buck or two, but it just hasn't happened. Predator has also eluded me and it seems like it should be a dirt cheap common title.
  • I have never owned Sky Kid and now it's too expensive apparently.
  • I just can't pay $20+ for MT Punchout when I see multiple copies all the time. When I started collecting 8 years ago I thought it was priced too high then as well.

About 1 week after I finally spent $20 on MTPO, my friend got one for $.50 (he paid $1 at a flea market for MTPO and Skate or Die together). He gave them both to me.

Well, I can cross not owning an NES off the list... I bought one on Tuesday.

have you played it? Kinda shitty
  • A Bard's Tale, World Class Track Meet
  • I am missing so many commons it is laughable. I get made fun of a lot from the local NA community.
  • Most of the best/most common games on the NES

    Contra

    Castlevania 1,2,3

Mario 3 (always borrowed this one)

    Metroid

    Zelda 2

The list is insanely long but these are just some examples.
  • Wrecking Crew will be coming to the Nintendo Switch online NES lineup later this month, which makes me realize I have never owned or even played this game. It's such a startling revelation that I have had to bump this old thread.
  • I've been collecting ten years and I buy any cartridge / box / manual for NES that's reasonably priced, I don't mind the challenge of piecing the rest together later. I currently have over 350 boxes, 500 manuals and 600 cartridges. Somehow there are multiple games I still have not gotten any of those 3 pieces for, including City Connection. I do not know how I never came across even a manual for that one.
  • I've needed an N64 booster pack since probably 2004. I have never played Majora's Mask because I get irritated everytime I think about spending $25-$30 for an add-on to play one game. Everytime I think about gettig Majoras Mask for the Gamecube, I think it sounds more fun on the N64. : /
  • NES - Life Force

Again and again I have assumed I've had it, intentionally passing on it in lots or bulk deals. A transaction last week marks at least the 5th time I've had the chance to knock this common off of my list but intentionally passed because I assumed I owned it.

    I hate shooters anyway.

Ditto!  They are not always available in shops around my neck of the woods.  But when I see them, I buy them!  Especially when I spot ones bedsides the clear versions.
