  • I still would love to know where jonebone is seeing sticker seals everyday cause I sure am not, I'm scouring eBay and other auction sites constantly and I have found one tennis sticker seal on e Bay for 6000.00 that's it

If you go on Instagram and find one member of the black box crew you'll find the whole lot. Ebay copies might get snapped up quickly, but people are hounding game stores and private collectors for them. Conventions during the dealer setup time must be a feeding frenzy right now. I get PMs asking me for sticker seals and third party hangtabs and I've never owned a sticker seal in my life unless my Deluxe sets have them, I just post old video games.
  • Tyler I recognize u, I love the podcast!
  • I think anyone who collects will face this dilemma at some point, I'm there now. I collected across many gens but have taken a break in recent years and just recently uploaded my collection to GVN (I was amazed by how much some games have increased). The thing I noticed in my collection is that it's the older games that have spiked, while newer generations remained reasonable or lower for the most part. Which sucks because I have so many newer games I want to sell, but then start thinking about how they could increase in value as people who were kids during those times get nostalgic.

I go back and forth on whether to try to sell it all or just unload a little at a time. Can't predict when to sell at the best time, just like the market...
  • Can I post pics on here? Would really like your guys comments on the condition of the BOX it is the worst part of the whole thing, the cart is MINT and the MANUAL has a slight ding in the corner so I'm thinking BOX 7.0 cart 9.0 and MANUAL 8.0 which hopefully gets me an 8.0. I would be ecstatic at that grade
  • Humn... that's tough to say since the box is the highest part of the grade. Also encased the box is all you can see. It's been said before but you're much better off with a lower cart and manual and the best box you can find if you are going for grade and eye appeal. But yes anyone can post pictures on here. Easy to do.

I'm just talking about loose group of seasoned high end collectors, resellers, and comic/game collectors way into early NES. Find a black box under #watagames and start looking through the comments and people who liked it and their followers. Or you can just look through the people connected to NA people like waffle_foot and explodedhamster
  • These are pics of my box I hope they come thru ok
  • Yeah depending on the sides, top, bottom that looks to be about a 7. Hurts a little for me personally that the hangtab is punched but that's probably more personal preference.
  • I'd make sure the manual is correct for that box as well. Should have NO year ( 1985), on the first page bottom margin. I have been trying to upgrade my manual for a while now and can't really find a proper match.
  • I didn't think it was punched, what shows it is? I believe all components are correct including poster and baggie? I can't check it now it's at the bank and I'm scared to open it but I'm pretty sure it's all correct

For example I waited 2 years to sell my raw sealed Contra nes copy and the price was 600-1000 around February of this year and sold it for 750 on ebay. The very next month another copy similar in condition and went on aution and did 3000. So my timing was very bad at the very least.

what do you guys see on the market that gives you confidence selling a game in a particular timeframe?

I don’t follow the NTSC market much as I’m predominantly a PAL collector. Though I would like to chime in on an important aspect of the OP.

When you see a game sells for double or triple, when compared to the previous month (according to average selling prices), then there might be a lot more factors rather than “you’ve been unlucky”:

    - the collector who paid heavily just wanted it really really badly (and happens to be a rich bastard).

    - the collector is an amateur collector who doesn’t bother to check average selling prices.

    - the collector pays much more because it’s one of the mintiest copies around.

    - the collector might be part of a shill-bidding scheme with the seller (or they might even be the same person).

    2 points:

    - please use the “quote” icon if you’re speaking to someone in specific. This way, they are more likely to respond to you.

    - try not to use assumptions such as “the skies the limit” (when projecting future prices). Sure, a lot of people might want a nice copy Super Mario Bros, but the real question should be “how many are actually willing to pay at the set price of ‘the skies the limit’ “?

  • Thanks for the tip on the quote thing, new to this site and I didn't know skies the limit was deemed an offensive term. I'm just excited about my find haven't had much good luck lately
  • Thanks for the tip on the MANUAL! I will check tomorrow to make sure it's correct as far as the cart anything different about that?

It’s not an offensive term. Just the reality is that every object has a value limit. I mentioned in the above I don’t collect much NTSC, but good luck to you for pulling up a nice bundle.

  • How hard is it to find a minty Mario MANUAL with 1985 on the 2nd page? Anyone have a nice one for sale?

Just like you mentioned, so many variables to consider. Even with average prices if a  buyer wants it really badly crazy money will show up.

From my limited experience, there is no rhyme or reason to it. Especially with ebay auctions. With ebay auctions, you need bidding wars and unforunately even if you get a bunch of watchers you can't predict if a bidding war will break out. About the only thing I can predict is that if I am trying to snipe something, a bidding war WILL break out, lol.

The problem, while there might be a few people that really want your game, they may not all have the funds to buy it. I've let things go that I wanted simply because I didn't have the funds to buy it.

All you can really do is try to judge what you think something is worth.

I'll give you an example: I had a near mint Robotrek CIB with Reg Card and everything: it sat there for a month and a half doing nothing, so I lowered the amount by about $40 and it sold within a couple of weeks. Then probably a week later another one sold, not as good as mine, for $50 more than mine sold for. I was pretty hot about that, and don't get me started on buying something and then a better one for cheaper is listed the next day. That's ebay for you.
