As the old saying goes something is only worth what one is willing to pay for it ..I think official NWC carts (both Grey and Gold )will always be valuable ..That being stated do I believe it is $42K (or $100K in the case of a Gold NWC)no ,but I do believe these will only continue to grow in value ..I am glad that I had an opportunity to acquire one before these truly become unobtainable.I am happy with my Grey NWC ,as I have absolutely no desire to own a Gold NWC .As for the prices some folks pay for collectibles I can not make a statement in regards to someone’s state of mind for choosing to pay what I deem to be exorbitant prices on stuff ,as long as it’s not my money I don’t care what one pays for an item .What I question is when one takes out a loan to buy collectibles ,especially video game related collectibles.
I've owned both. Gold and Grey. I see both sides but I do agree that the grey has a richer history. The only thing that gold has going for it is the rarity.
Anyone see the new gold shells Rosecoloredgaming is selling?

My computer is acting up ..So I can't quote the last comment .But in my opinion the Gold NWCs are a bad invest because it can be easily faked, and the fact is they are very unattractive in appearance makes the desirability very low in my book ..The Grey NWC carts on the other hand are very unique in appearance, they stick out in a collector's collection .And the fact they were the carts used in the actual competition makes the Grey carts that more special to own ..The Gold NWC are an afterthought. The "Gold "colored shells that Nintendo used for the first 2 Zelda games may have been a good marketing strategy for the Zelda series ,and it worked well for that .Had Nintendo used the design they advertised in the original Nintendo Power give away it might have worked ,but that’s not what was ultimately mailed out .

It would an interesting poll to see which version of the NWC people would prefer to own.

I mean no disrespect, but get your head examined sir.....
The same can be said when for any price above $30 for any game older than a half a decade, or any other time a top tier collectible in any hobby takes a price jump. This copy is also one of the nicest copies out there as it only suffers from minor peeling, a small ink blemish, light scuffing, and extremely light glue "mottling" (thanks for that word guys) There are VERY few copies out there that are nicer than this one.
I understand you wanted one at a certain price point and even put some big bucks on the table, and you still probably *can* get one for that price. Were in irrational territory with the new deep pockets entering our little hobby, so crazy unforeseen numbers are inevitable.
It seems the hobby is going straight to money right now, and losing a little heart and soul. But we've been headed that direction since the start of the decade when "my" generation woke up to nostalgia and for every sweetheart / buddy deal there's 1000 business deals.
No doubt things are on the rise. And this is one of the nicest NWC carts that I have seen. However. It's not $42K nice in my opinion. And I highly doubt there would be very many people willing to pony up that kind of cash on that cart. One ridiculous sale, does not dictate market value. If we see another sale like this anytime in the near future, I will be astonished. That being said, as long as Adam is happy with his purchase, that's all that matters. Again, I mean no disrespect when talking about this
No offense taken. I’ve been collecting since the 90s and people have said things like this before. You can’t win a bidding war if you aren’t willing to pay more than anyone else.
I”m happy with the purchase price as condition was important to me.
It has been 11 years since I sold my Gold NWC. How much longer would I have to wait to find a better example than this one?
I think the guy on the left is Nick Morgan, who you probably know did a brief stint in jail for mail fraud on some reseals
That is what he said but I don’t believe it. I think it was just a story to get everyone off his back and earn sympathy and if that was the case it worked.

Yeah that’s I heard ..... it was a made up story. Nick is one of the reasons I wouldn’t touch a NWC Gold without it coming from an original owner. He is a computer guy with extensive IT/Graphic experience that already made a dead match sticker for a friend.
I think the guy on the left is Nick Morgan, who you probably know did a brief stint in jail for mail fraud on some reseals
I think the jail story is actually bullshit. I don't think anyone has been able to dig up any proof that he did time. I think it might have been fabricated as a means of making it seem like he had paid his dues.
As for the the thread itself, this is about as good as it gets. Adam is not only an OG, he's a genuinely great guy. I'm glad to hear that you've got an NWC in your hands again, I'm happy to see how well you've done with your art.
Edit: Looks like I'm late to the party regarding Nick

Lol, dude you CANNOT just drop a line like that with Obi Wan Kenobi as your avatar! Great, now I NEED to go and watch a New Hope again... I guess that's not so bad!

You made the right choice selling off the SFII Turbo painting. While the craftsmanship is excellent, the actual artwork (posing, expression of Sagat) is fucking retarded, and I remember friends and I laughing hysterically at it as kids. How is Sagat falling at that angle from that height? Why does he look simultaneously nauseous and disappointed? Why did they pick two of the lamest characters in the game to be on the cover?

In that screen grab, Sagat looks like he's frowning at a penis just inches away from his face (bottom left of the pic).
