  • Has anyone heard back from Wata yet? I had sent out a couple emails over the last week and havent heard back. Waiting on an update for my first order.
  • I get they are moving and whatever but you can check email from anywhere, that is really poor customer service.

edit: I mean if they had on premise exchange and the server was down because they were moving that would make sense but they have Office 365. Website on AWS, hello you use O365 get an EA and use Azure for cheap

Not a damn thing.  Quite frustrating at this point.
  • I have a pending order with them too, but I'm not too worried.

To put it in perspective, They literally have the rarest, most valuable item in the hobby in their hands right now and I'm not worried....my Great-Grandmothers copy of The Legend of Zelda.

Give them time. They never expected this many orders or that they would have to expand this rapidly.
  • Yeah I have a poor-people-priority order from April pending. Even last summer before Wata games were guaranteed to make you an investor millionaire I had an order take just about the full 45 days. You can check your grades on the website at least.

I also sent them an email the same day I sent the package saying I picked the wrong console for a game (Wii vs Gamecube) and never got a response. I imagine they figured that out, I do wish I got a email back that just said "Cool. Love, Deniz" or something though.

Dang and to think I was getting antsy on my order from early June. Sounds like I've got a while to wait still.

    I lol'd

Are people no longer doing VGA? Did their valuations loose credibility with the entrace of WATA? Serious question, because I thought VGA was the standard.

VGA is still very large, and has the entire figure and toy lines as clients. Wata does a lot of interesting things, and their partnership with HA has created a speculative bubble. In the end they serve different markets, with VGA being able to grade and fabricate cases for virtually any sized item using the toy grade scale and Wata grading specific sized games using the comic scale.
  • Double post.
  • I got stuff at Wata and VGA right now. VGA hits their times but Wata is definitely a bit behind on all tiers. Even my Speed Run stuff took closer to 2 weeks and that was supposed to be 5 days.

A delay on all levels means they're priced too cheaply imo. They need to raise prices and remove some of the chaff being flug their way. BGS has the same issue, with their lowest priced tier having a turnaround time of over a year and a half now.

I think it’s also to do with lack of public awareness or understanding of what’s suitable for grading and what is a pointless exercise (ie. unlikely to gain any profit if reselling).

It seems currently people are just grading whatever they have to try their luck for a profit turnaround. Eventually, people will start to be more selective at what they choose to grade. At least, this is what I’m predicting.

  • Wata is in a great position and has lots of great buzz but is managing to negate a lot of good will.

Not even responding to emails is unforgivable. You could hire one person to answer emails for chrissakes. It's like they were expecting to NOT get a lot of business.

You don’t even need to hire someone for that - outsource it like most companies do. The initial email back doesn’t even have to have valuable information in it, just an acknowledgment that someone has taken ownership and is looking into it. Charge more for the service or hire more people. The success cannot be the failure.

Exactly this. In services, even an automated response goes a long way to assure you that you're being heard and there is some process in place that is queing your communication, and not just the dead silence of a "what if" abyss.

I will say though, after a week Wata did respond to me a couple days ago. I understand they have a lot of their hands with the move, so trying to give them the benefit.

  • For those going through the process, when you mail in something to be graded do you have an order number and a place online where you can go to see the status? Or is it just mail it in and keep your fingers crossed?

yes , you will also be able to see photos they take and eventually the grades and notes before the item ships back.

You have a dashboard with your order status.

However, keep in mind that if you select different levels of service for different items it will mark your entire order as "completed" when your first item ships out.

I wanted to benchmark wata and I got three different levels of service for a variety of items I had (I know, bad time to benchmark them, so I'll have to do it again next time) and while only one of five items are in my hands right now, the rest of the order is marked as complete, despite the individual reports not being completed or shipped.

They still have my sealed Abadox, 100% CIB Punisher, CB Huge Insect, and my copy of the worlds most important/rarest/valuable/unique game in their hands.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  • My order has been marked shipped for 2 weeks, I did the 5 day service. I just noticed they have pictures and I can see grade so I hope its on its way back. Do they provide tracking number once it has shipped? I tried to call but looks like I have the same problem everybody else has. I know they got games out the wazoo... they have to be making bank. They got money for hire somebody for customer service. pretty poor customer service.

    What?

WATA has been buying sealed games on eBay. If they proceed to get these games graded, it is a clear conflict of interest.

Orrrrr...people have been buying games and shipping them straight to WATA to save expenses, for example me. WATA is not buying games and grading their own shit
  • ^ are you sure its wata and not individuals asking to ship directly to wata for grading?

Based on where the games were shipped, when the account was created, what the account has been purchasing, who the account follows, and the name of the buyer, yeah I'm pretty sure its a WATA employee or relative.
