I'm in the same boat as some of you guys, I'm not personally much into PS2 collecting but they're good flips to fund more interesting collecting stuff. I have a couple of U-Haul boxes full of really nice PS2 CIBs and a few other newer consoles that I've been picking up over the past few years, including a couple of genuine rares and highly desirables. (Rule of Rose CIB among a couple others.) I've been wondering when the right time to sell is, might be soon..
PS2 games are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more common than Xbox. The reason you see more Xbox games sitting on the shelves is because they are less desirable.
You see Xbox games sitting on the shelves because while the print runs on games between the two systems were similar the difference in install bases were gigantic. Worldwide you have PS2 system sales beating the original Xbox by a factor of 6. Even in the US there were over three times as many PS2s sold as there were Xboxes. Lets say a low printed game for each system is 10k copies to make things easy. If you start with 50 million PS2 users and 15 million Xbox users and assume the same retention rate between the consoles then over a period of time you've got 5 million people chasing 10k copies vs 1.5 million people chasing 10k copies. In short you have a lot more people chasing similar populations of games on the PS2 than you do on the original Xbox. This is even ignoring other factors like the PS2 having significantly more noteworthy franchises that began with the PS2 or had installments on the PS2.
Someone needs to start a Kickstarter to melt down all the sports and licensed tie-in games for PS2 and Wii and use it to make free housing or something

But anyways, PS2 isn't as common as say Xbox.
