Hey there - New here

Hey!  I stumbled across this site while looking for some info on making NES boxes and labels and thought "why didn't I know about this place already?"

Showing my age here, but I've been gaming since late 70's / early 80's - had to stand in a chair to see the arcade screen - have amassed enough of a collection/hoard to need a spreadsheet to keep track of it.  I used to think that was odd, but I seem to meet many others who do the say, so YAY!

Anyway, signed up, happy to be here, and just saying "hi!"

Can someone give me and/or everyone a brief and objective explanation of what this is all about? Yes, I have seen the thread on it that contains 180+ posts that starts with some guy saying there will be exciting new changes. I have paged through and seen comment after comment from people who are upset, but can't figure out what is actually happening. I assumed this site would be gone and replaced with the new one by now. It appears both sites are running independently, so I really don't understand all of this.

    1. This site got sold to someone that doesn't care about maintaining it.
    2. Everyone bailed and created the new site which is in no way affiliated with this site owner.
    3. The owner of this site scrambled to save people by announcing new updates.
    4. The two sites will forever run independently but I've heard stories this one will die at the end of this month. I don't know what to believe.
  • That's essentially it.

However, in hindsight, I wonder if GC didn't want to make any enhancements because they knew the server was going to be decommissioned. I'm also not sure they are trying to save the user base as it wasn't that big at the time of purchase. It does seem like all communication has been handled poorly by GC. Hopefully Jim will let people know when the new site will be up.

Ah man, there's no proper way to answer that without writing a book that'd bore everyone silly.   Short answer, I suppose is -- I like all types.   Shooters, platformers, RTS, Sports, whatever the F you'd call games like Professor Layton and Ace Attorney.   I'm all over the place.  The 3 games that I've given the most playtime over my decades of gaming are Dark Souls, Medieval: Total War, and Puzzle Quest.

My collection is as bad.  I have virtually all consoles and handhelds starting with Atari 2600, Intellivision and Coleco, right up to PS4, XBone, Switch and PC.    Well, I didn't get into Handhelds until the GBA SP, so I don't have any before that.  But still, all over the place, as I mentioned.

Thanks!  I was a bit confused, I have to admit.

The box project -- something I'm sure is a pretty common story here.   I made a homebrew, and enough people planted that seed in my head that I should release it, so I'm trying to find some info about how to do that.  Templates for Box, Label, and booklet, info on paper weights for the printshops, gloss or matte, etc etc.   The game is done, so now I gotta figure out this part.

The brewery section is going to be where you want to be, I don't know enough about it personally but there's some good people in there that are good at what they do. I'm sure someone will be able to answer all your questions about it
