Erma: Super Dooper Mini Tool
So Brian Parker at RetroZone (Bunnyboy) was asking me the other day (ok, yesterday) about making a tool that he could use to buy stuff on eBay to allow NA to get a small commission from what he was planning to purchase anyway (servers aren't free!
I'd been meaning to get to this for a while now, and whipped up something quick to allow anyone planning on going to eBay anyway to help us in the process by "jumping" there through us.
For example, are you planning on hitting a BIN on an item? Why not enter the item number, here:
http://www.nintendoage.com/erma
...and help us out? We've kept ads to a bare minimum on NA and try not to ask for much, and this was something you were planning on doing anyway.
I asked Brian to name the tool and he quickly replied, "Erma." So Erma it is.
We've also added a search engine to the bottom frame as well as a quick platform browser at the top. I know it's not much, but it might be good for anyone looking for something quickly without having to leave NA.

Lemme just get this straight, you enter the item number in the box, it shows up on the right when you click enter, and when you click on the link that showed up on the right then when you buy it some of the commission goes to NA? Also, it's only for BIN's, right?
Or just paste a link in the top box (link or item #) and it'll put it in the bottom frame
And if I understand correctly, the commission follows you as you browse eBay, if you got there from a link on that page. So instead of starting at www.ebay.com start at www.nintendoage.com/erma and click any of the system tabs at the top. From there do your normal eBay browsing/buying in the bottom frame. Anything you buy will be credited to NA.
Also I yet wonder if I could program a rover link through NA that would replace my normal eBay search link. So I could bypass the tool altogether and each time I hit my quicklink it would bounce through NA and get me right where I want to be, but earning $$ for Dain.
is it like a % off the final sale price or a flat rate of like a tenth of a cent per visit?
^Does this time-out? I wonder if I just always leave my search tab open and hit refresh when I want, will it still credit eBay...

Absolutely -- send me the URL and I'll return your rover link. Or, alternatively, you can paste it in a private topic and the forum will auto-rover it.
I'm not sure what the timeout is, but I'd imagine it's under 24 hours.
Looks like you can still go through Bing and get cash back too right?
I'm not really sure on that one. I'd imagine it's one of the other, but I could be wrong.
It jacks up the NA window so I can't navigate

If so, does that work? Owell if I don't have to buy anything on ebay for you to make $$$, then I will be all over it.
No, you have to buy stuff. The money comes from the eBay fees on the things you buy. So not only does it cost you absolutely nothing (above the normal item price) it doesn't cost the seller anything and takes money away from the evil eBay/PayPal monster
Haha...should have named it "RobinHood", stealing from the rich and giving to the poor!
do we know what the actual % is?
It's not entirely clear what the percentage is especially because they've recently change how it works. They use some kind of algorithm to gauge the "quality" of the referral (they call it Quality Click Pricing) and base in on that. So I'm not 100% sure what it will end up being, but I think it's around 3-5%.

Bummer, I would love to help, but I WILL NOT BUY ON EBAY! More importantly I won't use paypal. Sorry I can't help out here, but I will keep it in mind.
So browsing through it does not make you money? So basicaly we should just navigate normally (if it's easier). However if we buy just make sure to go through NA. Just another question everyone is saying just BIN's does it also work on auctions?
No, browsing doesn't do anything, you have to buy something. But the important part is "jumping" from NA -- anything you buy after jumping we get credit for. It works on anything, BINs, auctions, offers, store listings, whatever.
Enter the item number and away you go. Pretty slick
I'm using IE7 if that helps.
