  • I got 82 cents back on a $20 claim one time.  Seller still sells stuff occasionally, and gets negative feedback for not sending items.  Beyond belief.  The seller never did respond to the Paypal dispute.  That is when I learned to always use a credit card.  That dispute still shows up on my paypal account every time I log into paypal.  Yea Paypal!!

  • Yeah I got something like a $1.37 back for about a $35 dollar claim sometime ago. Luckily for me the seller finally came thru with the deal about a month later. The god damn dispute still shows up for me too in paypal, even though it was like 2 years ago! I swear it's impossible to get rid off image
  • I got absolutely zero back from a $65 dispute a couple years back... Seller never came through, nothing. Frankly, it's the only reason I'd ever consider getting a credit card is because of Paypal's inability to follow through on claims and such to ensure that a ripped buyer gets his money back. And yes, the dispute still shows.
  • A good way to get to sellers is to use the "Find Contact Information" option in the Advanced Search on eBay. I had a seller that was non-responsive except for negative feedback recently (for nearly two months!). I then used the eBay contact info option, and suddenly received an e-mail from the seller (he obviously didn't think it was possible for me to get his name, phone #, etc), I called and left a msg on his voicemail, and within 1-2 days I had my money back. In Europe (especially Germany), the law is pretty strict, even for e-commerce, so things like this can really put some added pressure on eBay scammers.
  • Rule #1 of Paypal claims:

If it came screwed up, and it was their fault, and there was no delivery confirmation - you MUST MUST MUST say it did not arrive.

I've never had a successful claim where I was honest and said it arrived damaged. They never even get to the point where I send it back for a refund, they just find in the seller's favor. All they care about is if it got there.

YOUR ONE CHANCE if you got the item, it was screwed up and their fault (misrepresented, poor packing, etc) and they DID use delivery confirmation (and you check it and it shows the arrival of the item - this isn't always the case so CHECK!!)

...the one chance is to say you got the COMPLETELY wrong item and you'd like to send it back for a refund due to time constraints.

And then, be sure you send it back with delivery confirmation to cover your ass.

Paypal deals with hundreds, probably thousands of these per day and they've always been very one-dimensional with their handling of the situations. Anything less than these two options means you lose your money. It's being dishonest, but the seller was outright negligent or worse, a liar - and if being dishonest is the only solution, ask yourself if bending your personal morals vs Paypal's obviously poor business ethics is worth the $20, $65, $200, whatever you're out because of a raw deal.
  • Oh I forgot to add, feel free to call or even email the person you're claiming against and tell them EXACTLY what you're doing. Paypal doesn't care about email communications and won't use them as evidence since they can be forged, and really more honestly - they don't care and don't have time.

Once you tell them exactly what you're going to do to get all of your money back, unless they solve your problem and make your purchase right, they'll sometimes be willing to "settle out of court." Be sure to make it part of the agreement that they leave feedback first since you paid up front, and that you'll reciprocate since they're making things better for you.

In many cases (mostly with male sellers) they'll just get screamy and try to fight the Paypal claim thinking they have a prayer in hell. Which they don't. They just wind up losing their merchandise and their money in the end, and there's nothing they can do about it. And at that point when you've given them a FAIR chance to make your order right and they've just yelled at you, they deserve it IMO.

Call me a bad person, but I don't settle for being screwed on eBay. And you don't have to either.

Whoa, I just tried this to see what would happen.  I didn't know it would send an email out to the other person.  That option is very helpful, just don't do it for unless you really need to.  I hope I did not make someone upset.  I wish I had known about this a year ago.
  • i was ripped once for a nes and some games $125.. i got every penny back through paypal.. i feel safe with paypal!
  • The last dispute I had, I told the seller I was calling the police in his town. I had my money within a couple of days.

I have one ongoing right now for a deal I did off ebay through Paypal. Paypal sided with me, but he'd already taken the money out of his account. After that, he'd occasionally try to sell things on ebay, and use a new Paypal account, and I would call Paypal and have them check on it. The next day his stuff would be pulled. A couple of weeks ago I saw him selling some things and I let him know things would be alot easier for him if he'd just pay me back the $110. He said that all the proceeds from his sales were going into the Paypal account that he'd ripped me off with, and since he can't withdraw from it until I'm paid back, that's what he's doing. I still haven't seen money, but I think he might actually be telling the truth this time.
