Hopefully a good find coming

I am just too excited I have to post now. I made flyers around a few local towns for nes games. I just got a call 3 days later and someone has 40-50, She asked if I resell, play or collect. I told her I play and collect. She said it would take a couple days to get all the games together so hopefully she isn't looking them up on ebay. I hope I get some decent titles

  • good luck, and don't forget to post pics when you get them.
  • Dutch that's exactly what she's doing image Either that or contacting the owner (a son or husband) either way there's a good chance of this not happening. If you get calls you should ask if they're immediately available or at most within 24 hours. Otherwise they have time to "shop around," etc.

More than just getting the deal though, many people with extra time simply will never get around to taking the games out and forget about you, lose your info, act like they never heard of you, etc. Nintendo is important to you but not to them so much! So that's another reason to do it ASAP.

Just ask if you can see them tonight, or tomorrow morning or whatever, and if they are surprised and say they need to dig them out, just say "it would really be great to do it before (insert two days into the future)", saying it works much better for you or whatever. You don't have to lie or give BS excuses just don't let them off the hook without an appointment is the real point.

Anytime you give a potential seller time to think, usually their "second thoughts" are exactly that. And never deal on the phone or quote prices sight-unseen. This is unfair to them since it can give them false hopes, or can backfire in the opposite direction - spurring them to do actual research and they'll refuse to sell if they have a gem (or worse, cherrypick and pawn off the garbage on you when you get there at 8am to look a a box of crud).

Good luck, good idea and good hustle. Keep it up and canvas the same areas in 2 weeks, the signs will get wet/removed and even if the same person sees it twice, three times or more, there's always the chance they were meaning to call you but lost your number, or didn't have time to take it down, etc.
  • That's a great idea, and Dan's suggestions are also very key in this situation. At a garage sale, I did as Parpunk does and asked where they kept their Nintendo stuff (when it was obvious they didn't have any). The guy laughed and said they didn't have any gaming stuff anymore, only to be instantly shut off by his wife when she said, "Yes you do, it's in basement... etc..." The guy brought it up and before he could even think about not selling it, I handed the wife a $20 and said "$20 sound ok?" I could see the boxed top-loader coming out from the top of the box, so I didn't really care what else was in there. She didn't hesitate for a second, grabbed the box from her husband, and handed it over to me. The husband chuckled and mentioned that he wouldn't have sold it had he known he still had it. It just goes to show that sometimes you have to force your will on people to get them to cave -- don't give them time to think image

  • thanks for the heads up and pointers guys, She is suppose to call me tommorow, so I will make the first move and make the call around noonish, But like she said her kids have them all over the place, so maybe thats true, but then why would she ask if I resell them. Even if I can't get a super deal maybe she has something I can knock off my list for a decent price, Oh and I will be sure to ad pics if/when I get it tommorow
  • Where did you hang/post the flyers? That might not be a bad idea. Keep us up to date. image
  • I only put 2 signs up in areas that I go to. 1 at a gas station and 1 at a diner, they both have a place for posting: wanted, selling, buying, thing like that. There are a ton more places I can put them I travel all around my area, just haven't posted those yet
  • Ok I got everything, nothing I needed or rare at all but I couldn't beat the price. She thought she had more games (probly does her house was a mess...yuck) but I walked away with:

2 Toaster NES systems with all cables
    4 controllers
    20 games as followed:

    Back to the future
    golf
    Jordan Vs Bird
    pro wrestling
    cabal
    mickey mousecapade
    cobra triangle
    volleyball
    robocop 2
    athena
    super mario bros 3
    marble madness
    world class track meetstar force
    little mermaid
    sesame street 123
    tetris
    double dribble
    river city ransom

Like I said nothing spectacular but all this for all the money in my wallet....$23

  • When she asked, player, collector, or reseller, I would of told her reseller, that way she would of gotten the idea, your not paying a stupid price for Junk....or even if its good stuff.......
  • I did that when I was collecting atari stuff I hung up about 100 fliers everywhere. grocery stores post office, laundry mats etc..I got a few calls and picked up some stuff. probally would of got more but a rival atari collectors would tear down my fliers when he saw them
  • nice score, on a good day you could sell that river city ransom to some ebay noob for $23 and make your money back.
