My M82 exploded....

Ok. So today, I got a M82 ive been waiting for. It's a pal b unit, with the jumper wire on the correct voltage (220v). I clean 12 games and insert them into the unit. After two minutes of gameplay, it said *poof*.. and up came smoke...lots of smoke!

It seems it's the yellow capacitor on the power supply board, that says 0.22uf thats blown. What may have caused this? Old age? Can I just change it? Did it blow because there might be more wrong with it?

Thanks for all help

  • Well, I wouldn't expect the voltage jumper to be the issue, since running something at double voltage probably would have blown almost instantly.
  • sorry to hear that man wish i could think of something to help you with. is there somewhere you can get replacement parts from? prob a stupid question.

i dont how much the m82s differ from pal to ntsc. ill have to open mine up sometime.
  • Sorry to hear that man!

Maybe the M82 came from cold in warmth which caused condensed water on the electric, You gave power on it and this might caused a short circuit. Just a guess.
  • Even though I think the power supply could be fixed, I bought 10 new old stock power supplys on ebay. Lucky me, someone had these power supplys from 1987. It's a generic power supply used in several products it seems image
  • Did You fixed it with this spare power suply? Does it work now?

Hey great! Congrats on fixing it! image

I have a broken M82 but probably not due to the power suply as a strip conductor is burnt through... but who knows.
Did You just had to replace it or were there other problems too?
  • I just replaced the power supply. Took me two minutes image

    Hi Hillfman,

Sorry if UP an old thread but I need to know if you have a power supply for nintendo m82.

I need one of these, do you have?
  • Being that Ive read the soon coming updates for the FAQ, I will refrain from my usual profane rant and try to be more informative.

kenshiro82, your best bet would be to send Hillfman a PM and ask him personally (click where is says "Send PM" just below Norway under his name/avatar. Posting in a thread that is 27 months old is not a good way to go about it. This causes a lot of extra threads at the top of the stack that really have no use there. Good luck with your search.
  • there is a huge community of people who may know why this happened!

These guys rock! I am on this site aswell and its how im fixing my Playchoice 10 Countertop that had similar malfunction issues.. no smoke.. but all sorts of issues..

they are more into Coin op arcade stuff but this is very close to what they work with and probably could lend some clues!

    goodluck! i want a m82!
