  • It might be worth the $7 if your into it for its uniqueness. Unless theres something I dont know about, I  just assume this controller was fixed up with some sort of kit with black button replacements? That would make it less desirable since it has 3rd party stuff up in it now. If however it was a weird controller from  a test station or something then it would be awesome to have. To my knowledge its just 3rd party bits.
    Paint it up black!

Goodwill in my city sells controllers for $3 I think?
$7 seems steep from a storefront, those chowder-heads.
  • I think we all pretty well determined that these are worth about as much as a normal controller, but it's neat to have image Someone did eventually chime in saying they personally had the repair kit that contained these black buttons.
  • It's all about context. Controllers around here cost $14.99 each, so you got a deal in my books. image

And no, I've never bought a $14.99 controller. image
  • I'd pay $7 if I saw one James!

I swear I've seen those repair kits with the black buttons way back in the day.
  • $7.00 for a controller!? I would pay $3 max for a controller. I don't know where some of these thrift shops are getting their prices. Yesterday I went to a thrift shop and they wanted $0.75 for a plastic cube that was chipped on every side. When in stock they will sell Atari carts for $3.00 each imageimage.
  • I just got Mario All Stars, Super Mario World, Qbert 3, and Pacman 2 The New Adventures for $8 from Goodwill yesterday. And my local book and music exchange place sells NES controllers for around $5.
  • Any Goodwill I've been to charges $2-$3 for controllers and games no matter for what system.
  • I could get one for $2.99 at my goodwill & games for $1.99
  • Bump for new info!

I was looking through NA member Rask's photos, and found this:

I think this is a good explanation for the black NES buttons!
  • ^ Yep it makes sense that retailers would use the VERY cheap import Zippers as parts to repair legit NES bricks back in the early 90's. The fami style didn't sell well, so might as well resurrect old bricks with the parts. It's the cheapest "repair kit" of the day image
