Favorite Arcade Game

I just busted out my old mame roms and it started to make me think of what game was the coolest in the arcades...when arcades were cool. During the nes age, npi image, it was the arcades you went to to find the coolest and most advanced games. Which was your favorite?

  • I only have 1 arcade cab, and it is broke right now. It is Heavy Barrel though, freaking love that game.

  • The Simpsons arcade game is my favorite!
  • Simpsons and Turtles are great, a friend and I wasted way too much on those back in the day. But recently I discovered Moonwalker. It's hilarious, I recommend it. All about Michael Jackson saving children image. But it actually has some great tunes. Try it out. It's totally different form the console games.
  • I just recently got into MAME. I bought a cabinet and I'm going to attempt to turn it into a MAME cabinet. It's a Zaxxon machine.

My favorite arcade game is Frogger. Then I like Scramble, Time Pilot, Pac-man, Centipede, Space Invaders. All the classics. image

(oh, btw, I'll kick anyone's ass here in air hockey!)

I miss the Samurai Showdown games and the Metal Slug series...

  • I always played Wrestlemania with Hogan and Ultimate Warrior as the tag team. TMNT was always worth 10.00 in quarters I passed up on and I wished I didnt a Punchout arcade remember "might blow mightyblow" and "knock him out" loved those games. Also why can I space and list in colums?
  • I don't have one favorite game..

But the NeoGeo machines are my favorite arcade machines.

I bought one last year and I love it..

Now if I could only get that pause button installed on my MVS cabinet...
  • Two words: Crazy Climber
  • There is a pizza place near here that all the soccer and baseball team parties were always at when I was little. They had a game that I can't remember the name of and it's bugged me for a long time. It was a side scroller gladiator type game where you walked from left to right and basically dodged crap flying at you and tried to get to the next gladiator person to fight them with as much of your shield and armor left as you could. You basically had a sword and shield and you could swing low, middle, or high attack and the real only way to win was to just bust the shit outta the computers shield until it was busted in half and then to like a 3rd it's original size. At that point you had to knock off a piece of armor and then hit the bad guy in the same spot again to kill them and move past them. Of course as a little kid it was always fun knocking all the armor off the chick bad guy before killing her off. Anyone rememer this game? I woulda played it for days straight if I could've.
  • If I could only have one cab, it would have to be Bubble Bobble, but there are so, so many more I love to play.
  • Easy choice for me: Space Invaders
  • I spent so many quarters on Terminator 2 in the arcade.  I could never, to this day, get past the level where your in the pick up truck, and you have to protect it by shooting all the enemies that keep attacking it.  Even on the Sega Genesis, I can't get past that level.
I LOVE shoooting games in the arcade.  Right now, there is one called, something like, "Police Trainer", I musta put like $20.00 in that game this summer, on the boardwalk, in one session!
  • The original TMNT game. Mr. Do was also good.

I made a video of me playing TMNT on youtube on one life.  image
  • TMNT and Simpsons were both good, I spent tons of time playing X-Men at a Piza Hut too.  I was always Wolverine and my sister was usually Cyclops image
  • Dungeons and Dragons 4-player cabinet

    DDR (pretty well any)

Street Fighter II (back in the day!)

    Honorable Mention:

Primal Rage (with the Fartin' Ape)

Time Killers (cheesiest fighter ever; you can sever your opponent's head with one well-placed shot, no setup, special combo/move or damage necessary)

Ms Pac Man (love the speed baby)

Police Trainer is awesome!!! I take my son to a Arcade place and I end up playing that and Gauntlet Legends
  • Ahhh, Gauntlet Legends. My friend and I used to go to Walmart and put so much money in that machine. Our Walmarts close one of the two side entrances at night, and the one they closed down was the one the arcade machine was in. They used to hate us because we would be there until they were wanting to close the side entrance down, but we wouldn't leave.
  • Remember the game Lucky and Wild? One guy drove and the other guy shot? IT was great then, but Im sure it sucks now.
  • I didn't really play many arcade games till Street Fighter II, but I do have a few good memories of NES-era arcade games.

My first encounter was with a P.O.W. machine in the local Kroger -- that was the first one I'd ever played, so naturally I thought it was the most amazing thing in the world. Everytime we went to get groceries, I would gaze longingly at it.

A couple others I vaguely remember are Super C and Bionic Commando. Don't remember much about them, though...

  • thought i'd start this again.

X-Men, Simpsons, Smash TV, Donkey Kong and T2 were my favs when i was a midget.
  • What WAS my favorite? Well, when I was younger it was Marvel Vs. Capcom 1 and 2, and that still hasn't changed.
  • Contra favorite of all time

    followed by:

    SF2

    Heavy Barrel

    NBA Jam

    NFL Blitz

    Many good times...
  • The Aliens arcade cabinet by Konami. I loved that arcade as a kid and it's the only one currently that I would honestly think about sinking money in. I used to love the old Neo Geo cabinets playing Magician Lord and Metal Slug. Good times.
  • Mortal Kombat, Marvel vs Capcom, Asteroids,Galaga, Simpson
  • Rastan, Speed Rumbler, Ikari Warriors, Heavy Barrel, Time Soldiers, 720. I could go on and on. I used live for the arcade. Any time we'd go to a convenience store, pizza place, or shopping mall, I headed straight for the arcade. Good god damned memories.
  • X men was my favorite when I was a kid. Donkey Kong is my favorite now.
  • I like playing my Gorf. Damn shit talkin robot.
  • It's pretty much a toss-up between Street Fighter 2 and Final Fight. If I had to pick one of them on the spot, however, Final Fight wins by a slim margin.
  • I always say Black Tiger. That game f'n rocks! There was suposed to be a nes game but it has never shown up. I'd poop! Seriously. Poop.
  • For the longest time (and until I got a PlayStation that has a great port of it), it was Raiden.

Now? Hm.. Tough choice. I'm going to say a Radiant Silvergun cab, although it will probably have to be a converted one. image
