Opening a Game Boy

Hello Guys, well I have an GB here and want to do some Mods in it (Paint, stero and backlight) But I can't open it, I don't have the Triwing and it's very expensive to buy around here (live in Brazil).

There are some way to open it without the TriWing?

  • I've used the tip of a VERY sharp knive to take out the triwings of a Game boy pocket. but if you dont get the tip right on the screw then you might scratch the plastic.
  • If you get a really good eyeglass repair kit, it will have a good assortment of flatheads. If you get precisely the right width head, you can get the triwings out. Not too big or it won't get around the inner angle bump, not too small or it will just spin.
  • There are many cheap tri-wings on dealextreme. In case you aren't familiar, they have free worldwide shipping.

    Here is one example:

A simple search for "tri-wing" comes up with many different ones with varying size/quality/quantity.
  • A 1/16 flathead will work. I got mine from Sears.
  • I purchased this tool kit

It has 2 tri-wings in you. One is the one you will need for the game boy. The other is the one you need for the wii. It also comes with BOTH bit's to open games. 3.8 mm and 4.5mm. I highly recommend this kit if you ever plan on opening video game systems/accessories more than once. Also nice and compact, I fit it in my green military issue tool bag with all all repair tools for easy transportation.
  • Yeah, i'm planning in buy one of these this year. It's really good and have all the bits I need.
