Save File Wipe?

I just got earthbound and I started playing it yesterday and today. I saved today and went back after a few hours to play again and everything was wiped. Does anyone know how that could have happened?

There was a level 90 file on the cart so it didn't seem like the cart had a problem retaining files.

    The battery is probably dead or dying. You should replace it. I just read that article posted above... I wouldn't follow those instructions - he's suggesting you bend and wiggle the old battery off and tape a new one to it's terminals? Just buy the right part and do it right, 2032 batteries with solder tabs are only a couple bucks apiece.

    Oh, and don't try to solder to a regular 2032 battery - the one without the tabs - the heat from your soldering iron can cause them to explode.

    I personally like to use conductive glue. Very safe, and very easy. Plus in the future you can easily re-replace the battery if need be.
