Flea Market/Goodwill Finds *Updated for 01.11.10*
Update 01.11.10
Well, the arcade cabinet is pretty cool. It works well, for the most part, but does have some problems. I decided I would get rid of it since it wasn't an arcade game I REALLY wanted. A guy at work traded me for several sealed NES games, which I was happy to oblige him. Especially seeing as how I didn't have anywhere to put it in my house, it would have never made it home. So, here's what I traded him for:
All sealed:
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
King's Knight
Legacy of the Wizard (some of the plastic is torn, but it's still sealed)
Metal Gear
Q*Bert
Wall Street Kid
Let me know how I did. God bless!
PREFACE:
So far, 2010 has been the most eventful in video game finds. My Goodwill "source" has already come through in spades. I've already found more games this week at this particular Goodwill than I did during the entirety of last year. However, I'm super stoked about my arcade find!
Today, 01.06.10
Well, Monday and todaywas pretty eventful. My "source" at Goodwill had
6 more games waiting for me, which I was pretty stoked about. I later
found that three of the games included manuals. The games that I got
were:
01.06.10
Goodwill:
Double Dragon
Joust
Mickey Mousecapade (+ Manual)
Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt (+ Manual)
Super Mario Bros 3
Willow (+ Manual)
A guy I've been talking to back and forth on Craigslist had an SNES
with 3 games that he was going to sell me for $20. I finally met up
with him tonight and he found 3 more games. Here's what I ended up
getting:
Craigslist:
SNES
2 Controllers (1 First Party, 1 Asciiware)
2 RF adapters
Games:
Donkey Kong Country
Final Fight
Road Runners Death Valley Rally
Rocky Rodent
Super Double Dragon
Super Off Road

Then, the coolest find so far was a free Arcade game! I posted a
Freecycle request looking for an arcade game for a project. I even
asked if it wasn't working, I would be willing to take it. I was going
to use just the cabinet. Surprisingly, I got a hit! I went and picked
it up yesterday and almost killed myself getting it out of the truck.
Right now, it's going to live in our warehouse at work until I can get
it fixed up and home. It DOES work. Cost: FREE!

Today, 01.04.10
I went to Goodwill at lunch. The last time I was in, I asked the lady if they ever got in Nintendo games (as I was buying one), and she told they did and that she would hold them for me. I took that with a grain of salt, but she came through! As soon as I saw her today, she told me she had some games for me. She handed me a bag with 3 games. Nothing stellar, but it's a good prospect for more games (if she keeps holding them for me). So, here's what I got today:
TMNT 2: The Arcade Game - 2.99
Urban Champion - 2.99
Wolverine - 2.99
The Fox and the Hound 2 DVD (for the wife) - 1.99
The Goonies VHS - 0.69
Total for the day (since they don't charge tax): 11.65
Just FYI, TMNT 2 and Urban Champion are dupes and are going to be added to my For Trade list.
01.02.10 - I went to flea market. By far the funniest thing I saw was a
guy pay
120 dollars for a boxed SNES with 4 or 5 games (cart only). I don't
think that the guy got robbed, but I think he could have done better.
The guy wasn't a
collector because I kept hearing him say how he hadn't played one in a
while and was all "merry christmas to me" about it. It was really funny. The lady was going to try and sell him
Donkey Kong 3 for $50. He didn't bite and she dropped it down to $30
stating that it was rare and collectible. Needless to say, he passed.
Anyway, the finds I had today weren't too bad. I paid more than I would
normally pay per cart, but I really wanted to add to my collection.
Flea Market:
Bad News Baseball (with manual) - $6
Bad Dudes - $3
The Immortal - $4
Total 14.00 (with tax)
Then, I hit a couple of local Goodwills. I didn't see much and was
about to leave. I decided to go check out the books really quick. Then
I spotted The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes book. This alone would
have made my day since all soft cover books are $0.25. When I started
looking around more I saw more Calvin and Hobbes books and found an NES
game! I like this particular Goodwill because ALL of their video games
are 1.99. See below for what all I found and what I paid.
Goodwill:
Michael Andretti's World GP - $1.99
The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes - $0.25
The Calvin and Hobbes Lazy Sunday Book - $0.25
Calvin and Hobbes Yukon Ho! - $0.25
The Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book - $0.25
Total: 2.99
Total for the day (01.02.10) came to $16.99.
Comments
DK3 for $50... man I hate crap like that.
@absolutsyd - let me know how the biography is
@the tall guy - when I saw the price she was asking and the said that.... I wanted to walk out right then.
Oh yeah, the Calvin and Hobbes made the whole outing worth it!
