18 for Paypal, 16 for checking account?

I'm kind of tired of having to do all business through my dad's paypal account. He never uses it, or hardly ever even uses computers/knows how to, so it's basically my account. However, I just wanted an account under my name with my own bank account linked, etc. I have a checkings account that I can link, but paypal says you need to be 18+ to open an account, but I have a checkings account to link it to?! Obviously, I can't lie about my age, but is there any way to change the account holder's name from my dad's to mine (I figured not because then they won't match the bank account/credit cards that the account is linked to).

Of course there's the "student account" alternative, but I figured there are going to be far too many limitations on that. Are there? I haven't looked into it much as I'm not feeling too optimistic about having to resort to that option.

  • You can't legally enter into any contracts until you're 18.

You're checking account is probably a custodial account with one of your parents as a joint account holder, as well.
  • ^Yeah, it is a joint account image. Well, only 2 more years!
