Does anybody on here have an EarthBound Prototype?

I know one (SNES) sold on ebay relatively recently, and I wondered if anybody on here had one.

Comments

  • I know DreamTR has one of the NES ones, and there's definitely someone else with it on this site. I believe there are 4 (or is it 5) NES ones known to exist.
  • I only knew of two different NES ones and only two SNES ones. I wanted to check it out because I have a friend who got outbid on the EB snes prototype on ebay. If somebody on this site had it, I was going to let him know. He's spent around $6 grand on just MOTHER merchandise. This guy's crazy.  Not to mention, I wanted to see some more pics. There aren't many available online.
  • Pigmask: that was me that won the Earthbound SNES one, so I did end up with it...
  • Chek out thenesdump.com for all your repro needs....great guy to deal with, nice quality games and you get them quick....

Really?  That would be news to me, though I know he ended up with the SNES copy.

If he doesn't currently own one, he has in the past.  I don't recall whether or not he sold his copy off.

  • I don't own either but I bought the Soccer Kid SNES Pal proto off of the same seller who sold the SNES earthbound to Dream image

I only knew of 2 NES's being in existance with the other one just recently in the past say year being brought to the publics attention... ?

Yeah, I'm not 100% up to date, but I'm pretty sure that at one time or another he had one of them.

He did? I don't remember that.
  • A friend of mine claims his game collector dad owns a very early SNES one with both Ness and Ninten in it
  • That was a nice snag on the Earthbound. I can't believe I didn't see it.
  • DreamTR, are there any differences on the Earthbound you won?

I won the Cosmic Spacehead (MD) Proto/Sample cart from him, unfortunately it was a 1:1 to the retail.
  • Cauterize: I have no idea...I didn't play through the released version so I wouldn't be able to tell...

Fair enough. Maybe compare the two via a Binary Hex Comparison program? (If you've dumped it)
  • Cauterize: that's all Greek to me...I have no way to dump SNES prototypes...I can barely use a copyNES as it is for NES games..
  • Hey Jason, although this item hasn't been publicly released beyond the few proto's for testing I hear that this would work well for dumping SNES and Genesis games, as well as Atari games if you get a correct adapter. I'm planning on picking one up asap.

and supposedly it is as simple to use as a USB storage device
  • Is it actually out yet? I'll be all over that...
  • not yet but very very very soon from what I hear... all he needs to get in is the cases to put them in. he has 250 actual units. checking that site every day
  • Yeah, I'll definitely grab that thing and get some SNES protos out there to people...I wish there was a way to make repros of those cheap, I have some SNES games that would be neat to play
  • Man that retrode thing is hella cool. I'll have to pick one up too!
  • I've got a bunch of Retrodes in stock now, so if you're interested, feel free to pay a visit to my little online store image Cheers, Matthias [retrode.org]
  • for the record the retrode is one of my most favorite purchases ever online. now all I need is a USB controller and I'm set. No more need to lug around a SNES with me image fits right into my laptop bag as well as a couple games image

    very happy customer image
  • No need for a USB controller, it has solder pads for hooking up genuine controllers! Don't they sell a kit too? *edit See instructions here!

  • Try nesreproductions.com and gameeproductions.com their the only places I could ever find find Mother 1 in cart form; yes I sind Mother 1 the SNES game called EarthBound in the US in Japan was called Mother 2. Since it's real need is Mother I wound prefer reforing it by it's real name.  If you don't understand The Happy Video Game Nerd can help.
