Beat Final Fantasy 2 the other day, and I just beat Brain Lord in 2 sittings. Cool game all in all, but the shittiest ending to a game ever. I know those are SNES, but 2 rpg's in 3 weeks is quite admirable I think. my eyes hurt.
Panic Restaurant - I dont care what anyone says, this games SUCKS. I hate this game. This game is cheap, in so many ways. Your attack range sucks. Enemies killing you from off screen. There is so much cheap nonsense in this game. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!
Last night after some time spent struggling with 8-2 and 8-3 I finally beat Adventure Island. Another super difficult game, though this one gets a lot easier with practice. You start to know where everything is and eventually you're not really dying very often at all. It hinged a lot more on the "surprise death" type of difficulty, but it's definately beatable.
Finished Kid Icarus on Friday. I got the second best ending (out of four apparently). Amazingly awesome game. I had a ton of fun playing this one. The platforming was very enjoyable and the fortresses were super sweet. It can be a little daunting at first because the manual makes it sound a lot more complicated than it is, but once you get past the first section you'll be hooked. One of the best games I've played in a long time.

Now onto Kid Icarus which honestly I've put off for far too long.
Respect. Adventure Island is a crazy game top beat. Big sense of accomplishment with that one. Doing (8-2? 8-3? 8-4?) wihtout a hammer is INSANE. You pretty much end up having to beat the final world without a hammer too.

I can't imagine beating 8-3 without a hammer, that last section is murder. I got to 8-4 with fireballs and tried to take it slow and just cruise through, but I screwed up pretty hard and ended up having to struggle through it without a hammer. Still nothing compared to 8-2 or 8-3 in terms of difficulty though.
i played the 1990 nfl season with the new york giants in tecmo super bowl and went all the way. the biyearly super mario bros. 1-3 walkthrough (with warp zones; i admit).
Beat Clash at Demonhead tonight. Had never really played the game before a few days ago. A really great adventure game with a decent sized world and lots to explore. Also, completely non-linear!
Also beat Mendel Palace and Dynowarz last weekend. Mendel Palace is a great action-puzzler and Dynowarz is fun, but way too short and easy.
8-3 was the island hopping level with all those stupid jumping fish right? I fought many a hour to get through that bitch without a hammer 8-4 was no cake-walk without one either.
Now you just have to beat Battle Kid and you'll have pretty much beaten all the hardest NES games Maydogg
Oh man dude, I can't wait to play Battle Kid. I just need to get it first. I've been checking Retrousb daily. I see you just finished, congratulations.
Yeah, 8-3 had the damn fish. So frustrating. There was one spot that took forever to find a way past that consistently worked. 8-4 was annoying, but nothing on the level of 8-2 and had no insanely hard spots like the end of 8-3. Though if it werent for the milk I found after the eggplant in 8-4-3 it wouldve been damned near impossible.
I finally beat Super Mario Bros. 3. I always got stuck on 8-1 as a kid, and I almost ran out of power-ups this time around... but it feels good to triumph over something that's had the better of me since I started gaming.

I agree, it is such a great feeling. Ive been on a quest to beat all the games that tormented me as a youth, and I've had pretty good success so far. Beating Adventure Island, Metroid and TMNT were definitely great feelings, along with so many more.
Games left to beat from childhood:
Battletoads - Damn turbo tunnel. I never owned this as a kid, but I loved it. Dirty Harry - I always got lost and I dont believe ever made it to level 2 as a kid, but i loved this game regardless Festers Quest - another game I could never progress in, but loved anyway. (I just liekd walking around shooting stuff I guess) Ghosts n Goblins - I think level 3 was my best as a youth. I think it still might be Little Nemo - As a kid I think I never even made it to level 3, then again I didnt own this one either so I didn't get to play it often. Ive made it as far as the 2nd nightmare level since. So close, yet so far. Top Gun - not sure about this one ever happening And probably a few more but who really cares by now and is still reading this. If you are, I commend you fine citizen of this Earth.
Both quests of Ghosts n Goblins taken down. A great victory. I was literally shaking with excitement when I finally finished it. Since I beat Battletoads a few years back, this game has been looming over my head as the one that many consider to be the hardest on the system. I'm super pumped that I managed to beat it.
That is awesome, good job.
In January I completed Castlevania 2 - Simons Quest.
I'm working on Double Dragon now.
Edit: Games left to beat from childhood/ 2010 list:
Ghosts and Goblins Section Z Low G Man Double Dragon
I've never played this game as a kid, and never really played more than 1-2 levels until this weekend. I had to cheat and use GameFAQs twice. Once because I didn't know a certain trick. And once because I got really confused in a room. Not too bad.
Beat Contra a few weeks ago. Just finished Mega Man 4 tonight for like the 50th time. It has been a while since I played MM4, didn't remember how effing hard the second part of the first Wily battle was.
Like many others, I have also played Ninja Gaiden recently, however I get about halfway through level 5 just fine, then give up in frustration at how cheap it can be sometimes. I've never beaten it, but I have made it to Jacquio's last form. I died, saw I had to go all the way back to 6-1 and said f**k this game!

Same here. I had never played any NES Ninja Gaiden until sometime last year. I wanted to see how hard this game really was.
I got to Jacquio a few times and then finally beat his first form and died. By now I was running through 6-2 pretty quickly. However, now that Jacquio was in his second form, there is NO HEALTH REFILL when you get back to him!
So I died again and turned it off. If you can't beat the first form with a bunch of health left, then you might as well die and go back to 6-1. That health refill is huge because I always just barely make it through 6-4 to get to him.

There is a health fill up in stage 6-3 right before you enter the final bosses. Problem is you got to be perfect through 6-3 with out getting much damage so your health is good enough to defeat Jaquio.
Good God, finnally beat TMNT! The final section of the Technodrome is killer if you don't figure out what to do. Somehow I'm not as happy as I thought I'd be, though. I think it's because Shredder was such a pushover.
Your talk of Ninja Gaiden makes me want to play it, but it near-terrifies me. I've only ever gotten to level three, but those hawks have scarred me, man. They just don't let up.
Well, next game I want to beat is between TMNT II and Kid Icarus... probably TMNT II.
I don't have a friend handy, so I'll have to solo it, but they're different enough games to where skill might not transfer. I really have to get used to the enemies shrugging off multiple hits. Maybe it's me, but I can never get a combo on them, I need to jump away after every hit. I just have to gear myself up for it is all. At least I shouldn't get as mad as I did with the first one.

Ninja Gaiden! Holy mother of god that was hard. But so rewarding to finally complete.
yeah man. I'm working on Ninja Gaiden III right now. I can make it to the last act easy, i just gotta sit down and do it.
also, just realized that i got to wiley, but never finished mega man 9.
