NES Toaster Troubles

I bought an NES a while back and it played games just fine. They required an occasion wiggle or two like most NES's do. After a while it stopped working. I bought a new pin connector and tested it out, the games fit in nice and snug. I never get a flashing like any more but the games are consistently scrambled or have vertical lines running through the sprites. Is this a problem with the unit itself or the pin connector? Or did I just install the connector wrong?

Thanks in advance.

  • you might wanna clean the contacts on the part  of the NES motherboard where you plug in the 72 pin connector. I personally use Brasso for this, it seems to get the gunk off without damaging the board. The trick is to use small amounts, don't go insane with it now. image
  • Pretendo sometimes the new connectors can have the pins occasionally stripped out of place ... which may be causing the issue ... i'd reopen your NES and take a gander and see ... also you may just have dirty games that need a good cleaning
  • Thanks guys. I guess I'll take a look inside.
  • Another thing you could do is try and play a game without pushing it down. I've noticed that the tighter the hold the pin connector has on the game, the less likely it is to work when pushed down.
  • It sounds like you may have put dirty games in the new pin connector. Try cleaning your games before you put them into the newly pinned unit. I am assuming you haven't done this though. Could be a bigger problem if this isn't the case.
