The Toploader Connector

Hey everyone.  I'm considering buying a toploader off of craigslist, but he says: "Top loader needs new 72 pin connector. I know how to get them cheap and get them installed cheap. About $5 for the part at MOST."  First of all, is it true that you can get a replacement for about $5, and second, is the connector the same for toasters and toploaders?

Thanks.

  • From what I remember the toploader used a different connector then the toaster and I haven't seen one for sale cheaply.. I remember seeing a New Old Stock part from a Service Center once at the AgeExpo 2008 but it was pricey.
  • I am not sure, but don't you have to solder the 72 pin connector onto the main board on a top loader?
  • I have one. It looks very complicated. I'm certain you'll need a desoldering tool just to get the old one off. Not for the faint of heart. The connector is much different and completely incompatible with a toaster ZIF connector.
  • Yikes. It sounds like something I don't want to mess with. Thanks guys.
