How Do I Customize a "My Collection" database?

I just started to work on putting together a collection database under my "Collections" tab.

This is a really cool feature of NA. (Just like everything else here!!) I also read the very unfortunate post by Miss Clawful in the BST forum and noticed her game database is different:

She has columns for giving her games a rating as well as whether or not she has beaten the game. I would love to add these 2 features to my own database, does anyone know how I can do it?

Also, is it possible to remove the ebay, amazon and half.com icons from my collection database?

Thanks for your help!

  • 1. Megans page you mentioned isnt actually part of the collection tool.

Thats just a blog posting she made with her own spreadsheet style.

At the top of a messge you see the little boxes like the smiley face, next to the arrows is a button to make a table.

She just made a custom table.

    2. No way to remove amazon/ebay/half as of yet I believe
  • Hey, thanks for your response. So that is her own custom spreadsheet she created on her own and not a product of NA? As far as the Table Insert button, I looked and found that in case I want to post a message, but there is no way to make a custom table and then save it in my Collections Tab here on NA?

    thanks again
  • Some people here have created separate collections used as "Games Beat" where they would just add games to it they've already beat. I plan on expanding the available columns in the near future to include "rating", "in" (for games in transit), "out" (for pending sales/trades), "bid" for items you've bid on, and a "misc" column that you can customize the header for tracking whatever you want. I've got some other ideas as well, but this is all based on feedback from folks like yourself. I never though of the "beat" column, but I bet people would use it so I'll add that as well. Thanks!
  • That is actually a very cool idea. "Games Beat" would appeal to a large audience, at least I think, as it could help "gamers" that aren't necessarily "collectors". Anything that keeps the NES alive and kicking is cool by me.
  • I made this collection to show the games I beat as mentioned:

Dain - if you could add those columns, that would be absolutely awesome!! I could have one complete database here on NA instead of keeping a separate Excel spreadsheet at home. I think a lot of other users here at NA would like these features as well. I know a lot of us gamers like to keep track of which games we've beat and being able to view this on one master collection database here at NA would be sweet! It would also be really cool if you could allow the majority of columns to be optional and allow additional MISC columns to be added to customize however we like.

The categories that I would like to see in a collection database here at NA are:
    - GAME TITLE
    - PUBLISHER
    - YEAR
    - CHECKLIST FOR WHICH ITEMS I OWN FOR EACH TITLE
    - CONDITION OPTION FOR CART, MAN, BOX (it would also be excellent if we could add a decimal to the condition we give so that we could put an 8.5 instead of just 8 or 9. Also, depending on how much space it would take up, it also might be nice to have columns for MAPS and other XTRAS like posters, etc - it would be best if this was a modifiable field so we could add or delete it).
    - GAMES BEAT OPTION
    - GAME DIFFICULTY RATING
    - OVERALL GAME RATING
    - NA RARITY RATING FOR C M B

Categories which I personally don't care for OR it would be nice if there was an option to remove them to save space and make the database look nicer:
    - CODE (not all of us need this detailed info)
    - BUY (column with amazon, eBay, and half.com)
    - IN, OUT, BID (I personally wouldn't use these columns as once I buy or sell something, I just adjust my database accordingly, if other users have requested this, it would be nice if it was an optional item).

I hope this feedback helps a little. And thanks for all your time and effort, it's much appreciated!! imageimage

Sweet list man!! How the hell have you beat all those games yet haven't beaten the original Super Mario Brothers!? LOL!!

You need to get on that!

Also, I have a question for you about Sqoon. I'll PM it to you so that I don't divert this forum topic.
  • Im sure I beat Mario way back in the day, I just havent beat it recently since I started keeping track of which games I finish. Ive played it a few times in the last year but I usually bored with it quick, or warp to the last level and run out of guys. I just am out of practice. I may be the minority, but I played the Mario games so much as a kid I dont really like them that much anymore.
  • I see. Well one of these days you really need to go back and beat it so that it rounds out your list! Personally, I never like to warp or skip levels, I like to play them all! Going to PM you in a moment about Sqoon. Thanks again for your input.

You realize your can remove any columns right? Go the 'Settings' area of the collection to add/remove columns.

Wow, Dain, I had no idea! I just customized my collection and it already looks WAY better! Thanks! If you get the chance to add in some of those other options, it'd be PERFECT!
