  • The watermarks really diminish the quality of this photo-driven article.
  • ^I agree about the watermarks, but the article itself was very good.
  • I agree, however, I won't be putting out many more personal collection photos without them. image

If it's to thwart would-be scammers, you realize that's pointless right? I removed the watermark on NA images because people were actually removing them by hand anyway image

  • I enjoyed this article; I thought it was well-written and very informative. I know the Virtual Boy was promoted as a hand held, so are the games region free? I know that is the case with Gameboy and Gameboy Color but not sure if you can play Japanese games on a NTSC system.

    Thank you!  image

Dain, you can suck it!  image

  • I liked this article. It was very informative, and I will be referring to it if I ever get a Virtual Boy.

Why suck it when I can step on it! *crush!!*

  • I've run my website for nearly 10 years, and the only picture I have found off my site that was widely "stolen" was my photoshopped StarFox 2 box. Really, the paranoia of images being "stolen" is ridiculous in what is a really niche hobby, and the people who who do actually want to take the images will find ways to remove watermarks (see X-cult). If someone tried to do an article with those images without your permission, I imagine it would be easy to call them out. Personally, I don't think watermarked images should make their way into the e-zine.

That's my thought on it as well. The article was a good read, but the pictures were physically painful to look at because of the watermarks.

To each their own, I suppose. Still, a great article.
  • Well I certainly can't blame MRN for this. I just had pics of my CIB Stadium Events stolen from NA to use in scams on eBay and Craig's list last week. Sucks Hard!
  • Next issue, you should do an article on watermarks. You won't have to worry about watermarking the pictures as they are already watermarked with pictures of VB games. image

Anyone willing to spend thousands on a game is likely to have done the research to know when pictures are copied off this site.

Yep, on a site that I run, I quit watermarking images too because it's really pointless1

  • Please keep in mind that our contributors are unpaid, and take time out of their own day to present to you. Mike's one of our most prolific writers, and I appreciate every word and pixel he turns over to me, without reservation.

If he'd like to watermark his images, it's one small concession I'm willing to grant in order to be able to feature his intelligent, entertaining and freely-given work.

Real magazines can afford to pay for rights to publish photos however they wish. We are not in that position.

Sorry to be stern, but Evan, you're using some pretty charged words. "paranoia" and "ridiculous" -- really? Mike just wanted to retain control of his images, whether there's a 100% chance or a .001% chance they'll be stolen.
  • eh, not a big deal, let it go image

    Good article!

The only rub is he's not going to be making any money off these images, like a professional photographer would. He's not going to be selling these pictures. To Evan's point, the worst that will happen is someone rip them off and use them, to which the community will jump on them like a hawk.

If a refusal to allow watermarks causes MRN to withdraw from contributing to the newsletter or causes him to ask for something in return for them, then paranoia and ridiculous come back into play.
  • Hehe, as long as he doesn't watermark them with the notorious teabag, we're good image
  • I'll buy into that. If any scammer uses a pic with a giant nutsack on it, then you know what:

I'll nut up and shut up and let them scam.

    They have giant balls.

    They have quite the sack.

The huevos rancheros are strong with them.

  • While I respect everyone's opinion on the issue, they are my pictures and my articles. If you don't like the watermarks, don't read my articles.
  • Good article. People always complainin' about what they got for free.
  • Thanks for writing this article. I enjoyed reading it, and the information on the Japanese games was particularly helpful. I am nearly complete with my US VB collection and I am considering collecting the Japanese games. Cart only here though image
